State of the Science Conference on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The ADA Knowledge Translation Center, which is funded through the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), is hosting the State of the Science Conference on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This event is free of charge but space is limited. The keynote speakers are  Barry Taylor, J.D.; Vice President for Civil Rights and Systemic Litigation at Equip for Equality and David Pettinicchio, Ph.D.; Assistant Professor, University of Toronto. 

Responding to Alzheimer’s Disease: Techniques for Law Enforcement and First Responders

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is hosting a one day, no cost training for law enforcement and first responders to learn special techniques to use to properly and appropriately respond to calls regarding individuals with Alzheimer's disease. This training is dedicated to providing law enforcement officers, supervisors and executives, firefighters, EMS, and others from the first responder community with the most current Alzheimer’s and dementia training available. As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

    Train-the-Trainer Session for Responding to Alzheimer’s disease: Techniques for Law Enforcement and First Responder

    The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is hosting a two day, no cost training for law enforcement and first responders to learn about how to properly and appropriately respond to calls regarding individuals with Alzheimer's disease. Participants of this course will be taught to become subject matter experts for responding to Alzheimer’s disease for their agency. This training is appropriate for law enforcement, first responders and mental health professionals that work directly with first responders, especially those who have prior training experience.

    NQF Meeting: Measuring Quality in Home and Community-based Services

    The National Quality Forum's Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Quality project is hosting its second in-person meeting at the end of March. The purpose of the meeting is to address the gaps in HCBS performance measures that support the quality of community living. The meeting is open to the public and there will be opportunities for public comment. Online participation is encouraged as seating is limited. The meeting will take place in Washington, D.C. over two days, Wednesday, March 30, 2016, and Thursday, March 31, 2016

    Briefing:The Escalating Costs of Health Coverage: Causes, Impacts, and Options

    The AARP Public Policy Institute is hosting a Senate Briefing on the escalating costs of health coverage. The costs of health coverage are again escalating much more rapidly than general inflation - which puts increasing pressure on wages and jobs, access to needed health care, employer and family budgets, productivity, and the global competitiveness of American firms.

    National Disability Forum

    The Social Security Administration (SSA) is hosting a national disability forum. The Disability Forum is an open forum of Social Security that gives all interested stakeholders an opportunity to share their unique insights on topics of particular interest to SSA early in the process and directly with policy makers. Further, it provides an opportunity for stakeholders to hear from one another.

    Long-Term Services and Supports Open Door Forum

    The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is hosting a Long-Term Services and Supports Open Door Forum. CMS’ Open Door Forums provide an opportunity for dialogue between CMS and the stakeholder community at large. These forums are intended for all stakeholders who interact with CMS or work with consumers who rely on services that CMS provides. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET. 

    Ability Summit Career Fair

    Microsoft is hosting an Ability Summit Career Fair for candidates with disabilities. During the career fair, the Disability Rights Museum on Wheels will be at Building 33 in the Upper Parking Lot from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM and the Xbox Accessible Arcade will be open from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Building 33 in Baker. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Microsoft building in Redmond, Washington.

    Harnessing Evidence to Redesign Primary Care

    The Mathematica Center on Health Care Effectiveness and the Milbank Memorial Fund are hosting a policy forum and live webinar on harnessing evidence to redesign primary care. Practical strategies from the new report for improving the strength of evidence from ongoing evaluations will be presented by expert panelists. Additionally, experts who offer the perspectives of providers and state and federal governments will identify the kind of evidence needed to understand the implications of primary care transformation.
