The ADA Knowledge Translation Center, which is funded through the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), is hosting the State of the Science Conference on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This event is free of charge but space is limited. The keynote speakers are Barry Taylor, J.D.; Vice President for Civil Rights and Systemic Litigation at Equip for Equality and David Pettinicchio, Ph.D.; Assistant Professor, University of Toronto.
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is hosting a two day, no cost training for law enforcement and first responders to learn about how to properly and appropriately respond to calls regarding individuals with Alzheimer's disease. Participants of this course will be taught to become subject matter experts for responding to Alzheimer’s disease for their agency. This training is appropriate for law enforcement, first responders and mental health professionals that work directly with first responders, especially those who have prior training experience.
The National Quality Forum's Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Quality project is hosting its second in-person meeting at the end of March. The purpose of the meeting is to address the gaps in HCBS performance measures that support the quality of community living. The meeting is open to the public and there will be opportunities for public comment. Online participation is encouraged as seating is limited. The meeting will take place in Washington, D.C. over two days, Wednesday, March 30, 2016, and Thursday, March 31, 2016.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is hosting a national disability forum. The Disability Forum is an open forum of Social Security that gives all interested stakeholders an opportunity to share their unique insights on topics of particular interest to SSA early in the process and directly with policy makers. Further, it provides an opportunity for stakeholders to hear from one another.
Microsoft is hosting an Ability Summit Career Fair for candidates with disabilities. During the career fair, the Disability Rights Museum on Wheels will be at Building 33 in the Upper Parking Lot from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM and the Xbox Accessible Arcade will be open from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Building 33 in Baker. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Microsoft building in Redmond, Washington.
