Meeting: The President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities

The President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID) will host a two-day meeting next week. Members will discuss preparation of the PCPID 2016 Report to the President, including the report's content, format, and related data collection and analysis required to complete the writing of the report. The meeting focus areas are: Family engagement; federal education policies; transition; and self-determination/ supported decision-making.The location of the meeting is the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Hubert H.

NCIL's Annual Congressional Briefing and Reception on the State of Disability in America

The National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) is hosting their Annual Congressional Briefing & Reception on the State of Disability in America.The reception will include a short presentation on the state of the Independent Living Program in America, and brief remarks by members of the NCIL Board of Directors. Members of the House and Senate, as well as members of the Administration, are also invited to provide brief remarks.

Aligning Community Practices with Trends in Rehabilitation: Researching and Validating the Pathways to Careers Initiative

Mathematica's Center for Studying Disability Policy is sponsoring a policy forum and live webinar on aligning community practices with trends in rehabilitation. Research shows that only a small percentage of people with disabilities are in the workforce. Additionally, people with disabilites face obstacles when looking for full employment. An employment program, Pathways to Careers, helps people with disabilities prepare for the workforce.

National Convening of Workforce Leadership

The Innovation & Opportunity Network is hosting the National Convening of Workforce Leadership this January in Washington, D.C. At this convening you can connect with other national, state, and local leaders to transform America's workforce system. States will be invited to form teams with leaders representing partners and key stakeholders implementing the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

Annual Disability Statistics Compendium

The Institute on Disability and UCED at the University of New Hampshire are hosting an event where they will release the Annual Compendium of Disability Statistics & Report on Disability. A live webcast of the event will be available for individuals unable to attend the event in person. The Compendium is a web-based tool that pools disability statistics published by various federal agencies together in one place.

Financing Long-Term Services and Supports

The SCAN Foundation is hosting a Health Affairs Briefing on financing long-term services and supports. AARP, the SCAN Foundation, and LeadingAge funded "Financing Long-Term Services and Supports: Options Reflect Trade-Offs for Older Americans and Federal Spending," a study that examines the impact policy changes could have on increasing insurance's role in financing LTSS. This study was authored by Melissa M. Favreault and the Urban Institute's Howard Gleckman and Richard W. Johnson.

Health and Wellness in an Aging Society Course

The American Society on Aging is offering two courses in partnership with the University of Southern California Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. Health and Wellness in an Aging Society, is a new five-week course taught by the leading experts in the nation. Additionally, the ASA is offering their popular Fundamentals of Gerontology course. The USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology faculty includes Pinchas Cohen, M.D.; Ed Schneider, M.D.; Jennifer Ailshire, Ph.D.; Donna Benton, Ph.D; Kathleen Wilber, Ph.D.; and Aaron Hagedorn, Ph.D.

Medicaid in a Time of Growth and Change: Findings from the Annual Kaiser 50-State Medicaid Budget Survey at a Forum with the National Association of Medicaid Directors

Event Description: 

The Kaiser Family Foundation and the National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD) are hosting a joint briefing to discuss findings and trends from the Kaiser Family Foundation's Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured's (KCMU) 15th annual 50-state Medicaid budget survey. In addition to the briefing, Kaiser will release three reports based on the KCMU survey.  Diane Rowland, Excutive Vice President, Kaiser Family Foundation, Executive Director, KCMU will moderate the briefing. The speakers will include Robin Rudowitz, Associate Director, KCMU and Vernon K.
