National Disability Institute will host a panel event at the National Press Club for the release of a groundbreaking report on the financial status and behavior of Americans with disabilities.
Based on findings from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s (FDIC) “National Survey on Unbanked and Underbanked Households,” this unprecedented report analyzes data that, for the very first time, highlights the discrepancies in use of traditional financial products and services between households led by individuals with and without disabilities. A distinguished panel of federal agency leaders will take part in a roundtable discussion to address the financial challenges uniquely faced by persons with disabilities. A second panel of people with disabilities will provide their reactions to the federal panel and report findings and give recommendations.
Following enactment of the historic Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), our country made a promise to its citizens with disabilities that they would be “assured equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency.” Twenty-five years later, this report puts a needed spotlight on the challenges still faced by people with disabilities who need the benefit of affordable and accessible financial services.
Light refreshments will be served following the event.
