As states have shifted long-term services and supports (LTSS) from fee-for-service to managed care, processes that affect member outcomes become very important for community-based partners to meet state and MCO requirements. Improving operations in areas such as person-centered care and care transitions can increase efficiency and improve the quality of care, outcomes, member satisfaction and quality of life.

The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host a webinar detailing how to create a friendly, dementia-capable community. The Orange County Department of OC CARES, located in North Carolina, succeeded in creating a better community for their most vulnerable members over the past year and a half and would like to discuss the challenges and successes of their programs. They will explain the core requirements of a dementia friendly and capable community and how to undergo a trial-and-error with these clear core objectives in mind.

The National Disability Institute will host a webinar exploring assistive technology (AT) programs and how it can be used to help individuals build their finances. This webinar will define assistive technology, give examples of assistive technology resource programs, and also discuss ways to access the programs across the nation. 

This webinar will take place on July 12th, 2017, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET.

Lori Stiegel and Mary Joy Quinn, experts on elder abuse and undue influence, will host the webinar entitled “Elder Abuse: The Impact of Undue Influence.” Often, perpetrators of elder abuse exert undue influence to control the decisions made by their victims. Recognizing the signs of undue influence—including the psychological process between abuse and guardianship—will help legal and aging network service providers enhance older victims’ access to justice and ever help prevent abuse. The webinar will be held on June 27th, 2017, 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET.

The Administration for Community Living’s (ACL) Office of Nutritional and Health Promotion Programs (ONHPP) will host a business acumen webinar entitled “A Chronic Care Management Business Model: Moving from Planning to Implementation” as part of their TIM Talks series hosted by Tim McNeill, an independent health care consultant. The webinar will teach participants how run, bill, and market a care management program. The webinar will be held June 22, 2017, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET.

Alisa Brownlee from the ALS Association and Mary Ward, a Dole Fellow, will deliver presentations on how to cope with and take control of the effects of ALS for military and veteran caregivers. Prior sessions have been recorded and can be found here. The Easterseals Military and Veterans Services will host this webinar on June 22nd, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Wendy Strobel Gower of Diversity Partners, Michelle Day of Frederick County, MD, and Lanae Green of Region 16 in Burlington, IA, will present a webinar to teach workforce development professionals how to best assist job seekers with disabilities. They will discuss the requirements of Section 188 and strategies in how to build a more inclusive workforce development system at the local level by affirmatively recruiting and offering services to job seekers with disabilities. They will also highlight information from the Diversity Partners online modules.

The second event in the ACL’s HCBS quality webinar series, which provides a forum for external and internal stakeholders to share developments and collaborate on HCBS quality, will be on June 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. ET.

The American Society on Aging is hosting a webinar on how to assist older survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Bonnie Brandl and older survivors will present on the best ways to identify indicators of abuse and the safety needs of victims of elder abuse. Participants will also learn the most practical resources and strategies to respond to this increasingly prevalent issue.

Justice in Aging will be hosting a webinar covering the basics of the Social Security program. It is designed for legal services and other advocates who are just beginning in the field and those who want to learn more about the provisions of the program. The webinar will cover a wide range of topics including the rules surrounding Social Security, general information on how the program functions, and who is eligible for claim benefits.
