There is still time to register for engAGED and Commit to Connect’s 2023 Social Engagement Virtual Summit. This event will bring together national, state and local leaders for interactive sessions highlighting the latest research, innovative programs, and tools and resources for the aging and disability networks. The focus of this summit will be on improving social engagement for older adults and people with disabilities living in rural communities, and will also explore how to best support the caregivers of these individuals.

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the Office on Women's Health (OWH) are hosting a live Q&A session on women's health and aging to kick off National Women's Health Week. The event will feature experts who will discuss popular women's health topics, including menopause, sarcopenia, and cognitive health.  

The American Society on Aging is hosting a two-part webinar series on ageism in healthcare. Despite the highest healthcare spending years of American's lives happening after age 65, ageism is still prevalent in healthcare practices today. This can manifest in subtle ways, such as not speaking directly to older patients, or more significant ways such as assuming a treatment plan based solely on age. The webinar aims to address ageism in healthcare and teach healthcare providers and professionals how to make the system more age-friendly.

Applications are now open for the American Society on Aging’s third cohort of their ASA Rise Fellowship, a program designed to prepare diverse talent to become the next generation of aging leadership in the field of aging. The first segment of the ASA Rise Cohort consists of eleven weekly sessions focused on developing inclusive leadership skills. Fellows will be educated on various topics including unconscious bias, aging issues specific to communities of color, antiracism, and allyship.

Join the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) for an interactive workshop on the importance of understanding the impact dementia and related illness has on a person’s ability to communicate. This session will help reframe typical “problem behaviors” sometimes exhibited by individuals living with dementia as expressions of need and explore the many ways individuals with dementia commonly communicate their needs.  Participants will learn to:

The U.S. Administration for Community Living, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the National Council on Aging (NCOA) are collaborating to host the 6th Annual Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day. This virtual symposium is scheduled to take place on May 11, 2023, and is designed for public health practitioners, mental health providers, aging network professionals, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in ensuring the mental health of older adults.

Transit Planning 4 All (TP4A) is hosting two virtual town halls with a focus on identifying unmet transportation accessibility barriers and needs for people with disabilities and older adults across the country. The goal of this town hall is to gather insight from attendees who have direct experience with transportation accessibility and inclusion in transit planning and operations.

SAR-TAC, managed by Self Advocates Becoming Empowered, is hosting webinars on accessibility and writing in plain language. Presenters from the Autistic Self Advocacy Network will share information about how to write policy in easy-to-understand language. The first webinar, Plain Language, will describe the ins-and outs of plain language and is geared to government and non-profit agencies.
