Ageism Awareness Day

Event Description: 

On October 7, The American Society on Aging (ASA) is recognizing Ageism Awareness Day to bring attention to the existence and impact of ageism in our society and promote a positive reframing of aging within our communities. ASA's Ageism & Culture Advisory Council, at the forefront of initiatives against ageism, collaborates with members to reshape conversations about aging.

Fulfilling the Promise of Equity for Older Adults – Opportunities in Law & Policy

Event Description: 

Join Justice in Aging for an upcoming webinar discussing how law and policy can promote equity for older adults by addressing ageism and related forms of discrimination. In this webinar, the upcoming Justice in Aging publication, titled "Fulfilling the Promise of Equity for Older Adults – Opportunities in Law & Policy" will be examined. The paper asserts the importance of integrating measures into law and policy to address structural ageism and various forms of discrimination that intersect with age, ultimately compounding harmful inequities.

ACL/CDC Webinar: Fall Vaccinations and the Bridge Access Program

Event Description: 

Join the Administration for Community Living (ACL) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for a webinar discussing the CDC’s fall vaccination guidance and the Bridge Access Program. Participants will learn about the most recent vaccine guidance issued from the CDC and the Bridge Access Program, which temporarily provides no-cost COVID-19 vaccines to adults without health insurance and adults whose insurance does not cover all COVID-19 vaccine costs.

Up to Date Vaccination Status: Surveillance Definition Change for Long Term Care Facilities

Event Description: 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Vaccination Team is hosting an upcoming webinar review important changes to the surveillance definition of Up to Date with COVID-19 vaccines for long-term care facilities reporting vaccination data and RIFC Pathway data through the NHSN Vaccination and COVID-19 Modules. The new definition of up to date with COVID-19 vaccines will apply for NHSN surveillance beginning the week of September 25, 2023 – October 1, 2023 (the first week of reporting Quarter 4 2023).

The theme for this year's Residents' Rights Month, "Amplify Our Voices," underscores the importance of long-term care residents coming together to make their voices heard.

Assistive Technology and Accessible Transportation

Event Description: 

This upcoming webinar, hosted by the ACL-funded AT3 Center, will explore the role of assistive technology (AT) in advancing accessible transportation for individuals with disabilities and those who are aging. Key areas of discussion will include the roles and activities of Assistive Technology Act Programs, AT for individual use and vehicle modifications, and AT/accessible transportation partnerships. Attendees will also be provided with materials and websites for accessible transportation options.

Discovering Pathways of Support: What CMS's new GUIDE Model means for dementia patients, caregivers, and providers
