Making the Connection: Introducing a Toolkit to Support Telephone Reassurance Programs

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the issue of social isolation into stark relief. State and community agencies across the country have responded to increased social isolation among older adults and people with certain health conditions though a variety of initiatives. Providing telephone reassurance and check-in calls is one key strategy that is being widely used across the country.  

RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council Upcoming Virtual Full Council Meeting

ACL is hosting the sixth meeting of the RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council. The Advisory Council’s purpose is to support the development and execution of a national family caregiving strategy. The Aging and Disability Business Institute, a collaboration between the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) and ASA, is hosting a webinar providing an overview of the Detroit research study, “Dying Before Their Time”, which explored the reasons for premature death of people of color. Dr. Herbert C. Smitherman Jr. of the Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University will highlight findings from data gathered over 20 years and discuss strategies to trigger systemic change in community public health.

Moving Ahead Together: Developing a Framework to Connect the HIV/AIDS and Aging Services Communities

Event Description: 

The population of individuals living with HIV is aging, with half of those with HIV over the age of 50. ASA and Grantmakers in Aging (GIA) are hosting a webinar discussing strategies to better connect older adults with HIV to the aging network. Speakers will discuss medical, social service, and policy recommendations for how HIV and aging organizations to improve service access to older adults with HIV.
