ID/DD Day Services in the Era of COVID-19

Event Description: 

The COVID-19 pandemic created many challenges for people with disabilities and older adults, as well as for the disability and aging networks. But leaders rose to the challenge -- as innovators and inventors, partners and problem-solvers -- and states and ID/DD providers successfully implemented 1915(c) waiver Appendix K strategies and other creative approaches to ensure continuity in HCBS and overall health and safety. Through the pandemic, we discovered opportunities to rethink and redesign home and community-based services. 

Evolving Policies and Procedures at SSA During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Event Description: 

The Nation Center on Law and Elder Rights is hosting a webinar to highlight the changes that the Social Security Administration (SSA) has made to its policies and procedures during COVID-19. The webinar will outline the current status of SSA's policies and procedures, with an emphasis on local offices. Participants will also learn tips advocates can use when interacting with SSA on behalf of low-income older adults.

COVID-19 and SSA Programs: Serving Our Beneficiaries Through Unprecedented Times.

Event Description: 

The Social Security Administration is hosting an upcoming National Disability Forum on COVID-19 and SSA Programs: Serving Our Beneficiaries Through Unprecedented Times.  During this virtual event, advocates will share best practices for adapting service models during the pandemic. Speakers from government agencies will also discuss how they have modified operations during the pandemic.

Representative Payees: Opportunities to Improve Service Delivery

Event Description: 

The Social Security Advisory Board is hosting a virtual policy forum called Representative Payees: Opportunities to Improve Service Delivery.  During this forum, attendees will learn about an independent study by researchers from the Virginia Tech Center on Gerontology and the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging. Panelists will discuss topics including capability determinations, the selection process, training, oversight, and the need for ongoing research and evaluation.

34th Annual Conference Spanning the Continuum of Care: Innovations in the Practice of Age Friendly Care

Event Description: 

This conference provides geriatric health professionals throughout the continuum of care with clinical and practical topics relevant to health practice with older adults. These topics were selected because they represent areas of need as identified by participants and faculty who provide health care to older adults. Some topics represent increasing clinical concerns in the geriatric population. Other topics represent areas that have important policy and cost implications for health care providers and ultimately affect the way services are provided to older patients.

 

Focus on Aging / Federal Partners' Webinar: Social Isolation and Loneliness

Event Description: 

The Administration for Community Living has partnered with the CDC, HRSA, and National Institute on Aging for a webinar series on aging. As part of this series, they are hosting an upcoming webinar on how social isolation and loneliness affect older adults’ health and well-being. Specific focus will be placed on how COVID-19 has impacted older adults and the effects of health disparities. This webinar will also discuss social isolation and loneliness in the context of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
