“How Can I Help?” Tips on Assisting Someone With Advanced Parkinson’s

Event Description: 
This webinar will discuss the symptoms and difficulties faced by people with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Specifically, the webinar will educate attendees on how to assist someone with PD while caring for them at home. Participants will learn strategies ranging from verbal instruction to physical assistance. Many strategies will focus on how to promote better movement to increase the safety of the client and the caregiver in the home.
 

Supporting Persons with Dementia Where They Live: Dementia Education for Building Management, a Chicago Model

Through a collaborative community-academic partnership between the City of Chicago Age-Friendly Commission/DFSS and University of Illinois Chicago, NADRC has created a Dementia Training Program for building management staff to address the changing needs of older adults living independently in high-rise buildings throughout Chicago.

Joint Inaugural Meeting of Advisory Committees on Disasters, Older Adults, and People with Disabilities

Event Description: 
Join the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response for the inaugural meeting of the National Advisory Committee on Seniors and Disasters (NACSD) and National Advisory Committee on Individuals with Disabilities and Disasters (NACIDD). During this joint meeting, members will be sworn into service and begin a national discussion with federal subject matter experts on challenges, opportunities, and priorities related to meeting the unique health needs impacting older adult populations and people with disabilities during and after disasters and emergencies.
 

Using Data to Improve Outcomes: Sharing Experiences with Brain Injury Data

The Virginia Department for Aging & Rehabilitative Services has used federal funding to support efforts by the Virginia Commonwealth University Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model Systems team to learn how data can be used to identify effective practices and valuable outcomes for individuals affected by brain injury. This webinar will describe the Department's work identifying data related to brain injury and will discuss how data can support state agencies in creating comprehensive snapshots of what traumatic brain injury and quality of life looks like for Virginians.
