We are pleased to announce the release of the 2026 Aging Summit Report, a roadmap for preparing our nation to meet the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly aging population.

As more people live longer, healthier lives, we have an opportunity to rethink how we promote health, independence, purpose, and quality of life across the lifespan. At the same time, growing demand for services, workforce shortages, increasing caregiver needs, and systems designed for a different era require bold, collaborative action.

To help chart the path forward, ADvancing States convened more than 220 leaders representing 42 states and territories, federal agencies, national organizations, health plans, academia, philanthropy, and the private sector for the 2026 Aging Summit. Together, participants explored how we can prepare for a longer-lived society and ensure that our systems are equipped to meet the evolving needs of older adults.

The report highlights key recommendations across several priority areas, including:

  • Advancing prevention, wellness, and healthy aging throughout life;
  • Strengthening the direct care workforce and supporting family caregivers;
  • Building more integrated, person-centered systems that are easier to navigate;
  • Leveraging data, technology, and cross-sector partnerships to improve outcomes and promote independence; and
  • Fostering a holistic approach that engages healthcare, housing, transportation, public health, business, and community partners.

The recommendations outlined in this report provide both immediate opportunities for action and a long-term vision for modernizing the systems that support older adults. They reflect a shared commitment to creating systems that are proactive rather than reactive, integrated rather than fragmented, and person-centered rather than program-centered.
