The Aging Network plays a critical role in delivering services to older adults across the country. Yet, LGBT older adults often remain invisible and may not seek services due to fear of, and experiences with, discrimination. In 2017, SAGE’s National Resource Center on LGBT Aging released the guide Strengthen Your State and Local Aging Plan: A Practical Guide for Expanding LGBT Inclusion. The National Core Indicators (NCI)™ and National Core Indicators – Aging and Disabilities (NCI-AD)™ are voluntary programs that provide states data to measure and track the performance of their services and supports.  Data come from in-person surveys focused on either intellectual and developmental disabilities (NCI)™ or aging and physical disabilities (NCI-AD)™ populations.

I&R/A professionals across the country are receiving more calls for assistance from individuals with mental health conditions, often in conjunction with other complex needs. At the same time, mental health services are among the most frequently reported unmet service needs. Join this webinar to learn more about serving older adults with mental health conditions and capacity-building initiatives for this population.

Over the last two months, the HCBS Business Acumen Center webinar series has described how Community Based Organizations (CBO) serving people with disabilities can prepare their organizations for the future by gathering information about their current business environment through an environmental scan and SWOT analysis and using that information to develop their strategic plan.

NCI-AD co-directors April Young and Julie Bershadsky will begin the webinar with a brief overview of the NCI-AD program. Select states will then share their experience with the NCI-AD program and how they are utilizing survey data. Time for Q&A will be allotted.

The results of your Community Based Organizations (CBO) environmental scan, SWOT analysis and feedback from stakeholders and champions may highlight opportunities for growth and development or a need to respond to a changing environment. The results of your research may indicate that some parts of your operation may need to change. Whether the change is related to improving efficiencies, providing a better or different service, working with different partners or something else, the development of a strategic plan will guide the work that needs to be done.
