Supporting Adults with I/DD and Their Aging Caregivers

Promising Practices Series: Expanding, Enhancing, and Strengthening Home and Community Based Services under Section 9817 of the American Rescue Plan Act

Event Description: 
The American Rescue Plan Act provided $12.7 billion to increase access to HCBS for Medicaid beneficiaries. In May, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provided states with guidance to receive the enhanced funding. This webinar will include an overview of Section 9817 of the American Rescue Plan and presentations from Colorado and Massachusetts on innovative initiatives in their initial state spending plans. 
 

Brain Injury Survivors Building Community & Making a Difference

This webinar invites brain injury survivors, caregivers, and others who have experiences with a disability to learn ways to be successful while participating in team projects. The goal of this event is to teach what strategies work and do not work when engaging people with the lived experience of brain injury. The content of this webinar is based on brain injury survivors' experiences in NCAPPS Brain Injury Learning Collaborative from January 2020 to August 2021.

This 15th annual Katz Policy Lecture will examine the RAISE Family Caregivers Act, which directs the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to develop a national strategy to support family caregivers. Participants will hear from keynote speaker, Alan B. Stevens, PhD, as he discusses family caregiving strategies and policy recommendations from the RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council.

Promoting Brain Health through Education: Insights from Community-based Programs and Healthcare Systems

This webinar is the most recent installment of a series created in partnership with ACL, CDC, the Health Resources and Services Administration, and the National Institute on Aging. The September webinar will explore unique end of life care considerations for individuals with dementia. The presentation will include sections on evidence and goal based decision making, palliative care, partnering with staff and families to improve advance care planning for residents of VA community living centers with dementia, and the indigenous perspective on end of life.
