The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center is hosting a webinar about legal services and people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (ADRD). Legal services are often an unmet need among this population and their caregivers. The state of Delaware has broadened the scope of legal services offered to include a program tailored to meet these needs and provide fast-track access for the ADRD population. The Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD) is offering legal services from dementia-competent elder law attorneys via a voucher system.

Webinar: National Survey of Area Agencies on Aging

Event Description: 

A national survey of Area Agencies on Aging is conducted every two to three years. The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) has released their 2017 survey report. They surveyed 622 Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), with 412 completing the survey, to discover what services they commonly offer, how AAAs address funding, and what their policy priorities are.

Building Dementia Capable Communities: An Orange County, North Carolina Case Study

The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host a webinar detailing how to create a friendly, dementia-capable community. The Orange County Department of OC CARES, located in North Carolina, succeeded in creating a better community for their most vulnerable members over the past year and a half and would like to discuss the challenges and successes of their programs. They will explain the core requirements of a dementia friendly and capable community and how to undergo a trial-and-error with these clear core objectives in mind.

Asset Building Through Assistive Technology

The National Disability Institute will host a webinar exploring assistive technology (AT) programs and how it can be used to help individuals build their finances. This webinar will define assistive technology, give examples of assistive technology resource programs, and also discuss ways to access the programs across the nation.

Elder Abuse: The Impact of Undue Influence

Event Description: 

Lori Stiegel and Mary Joy Quinn, experts on elder abuse and undue influence, will host the webinar entitled “Elder Abuse: The Impact of Undue Influence.” Often, perpetrators of elder abuse exert undue influence to control the decisions made by their victims. Recognizing the signs of undue influence—including the psychological process between abuse and guardianship—will help legal and aging network service providers enhance older victims’ access to justice and ever help prevent abuse.
