Aging with Spinal Cord Injury: Focus on Function, Physical Activity and Well-being

Event Description: 

As part of the Knowledge in Motion Lecture and Webcast Series, SNERSCIC is presenting a webinar on aging and long-term spinal cord injuries. The webinar will take place on Thursday, April 19th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. ET and will feature Jan Lexell, MD, PhD from Uppsala University, Sweden. Dr. Lexell is a neuroscience professor whose research focuses on the life-long implications of neurologic disabilities.

Oral Hygiene: Caring for the Older Adult with Dementia

OHA is hosting a webinar on the unique challenges of helping dementia patients maintain good oral hygiene. Participants will learn specific care strategies such as how to communicate with patients about oral hygiene and how to recognize various oral conditions. When working with integrated care systems, Community Based Organizations (CBOs) may find it beneficial to work collaboratively with other CBOs in a way that allows them to build on one another’s strengths and better position them to meet the needs of integrated care payers. There are a variety of ways to structure this type of collaboration, including Independent Practice Associations (IPAs).

Legal Basics: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Resources

Event Description: 
The National Center on Law and Elder Rights (NCLER) is hosting a webcast on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) resource limits and rules. SSI resource regulations are particularly complex, and understanding them is critical to ensuring  eligibility for the program. Tracey Gronniger and Jenny Chung Mejia, two attorneys from Justice in Aging, will educate participants on the penalties of excess resources, how to avoid the resource transfer penalty, and other general important tips for managing resources.

Forum on Opioids: Strategies and Solutions for Minority Communities

The CMS Office of Minority Health and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration’s Office of Behavioral Health Equity (SAMHSA OBHE) are hosting The Forum on Opioids: Strategies and Solutions for Minority Communities on April 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET. The forum will address opioid use and behavioral health in the context of minority populations. Topics covered will include prevention, diagnosis, intervention, recovery, and access to services .

Addressing Social Determinants of Health in Primary Care

Event Description: 

The Aging and Disability Business Institute is hosting a webinar on April 24 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET about The Ambulatory Integration of the Medical and Social (AIMS) model. The AIMS model was developed to help improve collaboration of medical and social services and grew out of the need to more fully incorporate the social determinants of health into medical practice. The program works by pairing masters-prepared social workers with primary care teams in order to identify, address and monitor social factors which affect health.

National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) Annual Conference

Event Description: 

The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) is hosting their Annual Conference from June 18 – 21, 2018 in Baltimore, MD.  The conference will be attended by over 500 P&A professionals and will feature over 70 workshops to help attendees grow skills, build partnerships, and improve advocacy efforts.
