Participants will also learn tips advocates can use when interacting with SSA on behalf of low-income older adults.

The Social Security Advisory Board is hosting a virtual policy forum called Representative Payees: Opportunities to Improve Service Delivery.  During this forum, attendees will learn about an independent study by researchers from the Virginia Tech Center on Gerontology and the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging. Panelists will discuss topics including capability determinations, the selection process, training, oversight, and the need for ongoing research and evaluation.

34th Annual Conference Spanning the Continuum of Care: Innovations in the Practice of Age Friendly Care

Event Description: 

This conference provides geriatric health professionals throughout the continuum of care with clinical and practical topics relevant to health practice with older adults. These topics were selected because they represent areas of need as identified by participants and faculty who provide health care to older adults. Some topics represent increasing clinical concerns in the geriatric population. Other topics represent areas that have important policy and cost implications for health care providers and ultimately affect the way services are provided to older patients.

 

Social Determinants of Mental Health for Older Adults

Event Description: 

The National Council on Aging is hosting a webinar about how to identify socioeconomic conditions that can impact the mental health of older adults. The webinar will particularly focus on the effects of discrimination and racism. Participants will learn about actions that can be taken to address these conditions.

The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center is hosting a webinar about the challenges people living with dementia and their care partners experience when receiving services during and after a hospital stay. During this webinar, participants will learn about how these challenges can be mitigated through well-planned hospital-to-home care transitions. The webinar will highlight Hospital2Home, a care transitions model that helps people living with dementia transition safely back to the community through intensive care coordination.
