The National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) is hosting a webinar on the transportation issues that face the LGBTQ+ population. This webinar will spotlight the LGBTQ+ Insights Report, developed by SAGE - Advocacy and Services for LGBTQ+ Elders and based on data from NADTC’s 2021 Survey of Diverse Older Adults and People with Disabilities. The speakers will discuss key findings from the report.

Webinar: Systemic and Individual Advocacy to Reduce Restraint Use in Nursing Facilities

Event Description: 

The webinar, Systemic and Individual Advocacy to Reduce Restraint Use in Nursing Facilities, will review the law, examine the federal government’s various initiatives to reduce restraint use and discuss individual advocacy strategies that empower a resident or resident’s representative to reject any use of restraints for a resident. Federal nursing facility law states that restraints must not be used for discipline or a facility’s convenience. According to Justice in Aging, some facilities routinely restrain ten or twenty percent (or more) of their residents.

ICDR Webinar: Research and Development to Improve Accessibility for Blind or Visually Impaired Populations in STEM

Join the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR) for a lunch and learn webinar. This webinar will include a presentation on improving accessibility for the bline or visually impaired in STEM. There will be an opportunity for questions following the presentation. The Center for Medicare Advocacy will host a webinar on the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit, including changes to the benefit in 2025. If you are currently enrolled in Medicare or may qualify in the future this presentation will review what you need to know about these changes. This will include information on the beneficiary out-of-pocket cap, Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, drug price negotiation, and more.

Webinar: Medicare Savings Programs

Event Description: 

The National Center on Law & Elder Rights will host a webinar on Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs). MSPs are Medicaid-administered programs for Medicare beneficiaries with limited income and assets, and they can help pay for Medicare premiums and cost-sharing. This training will provide an overview of the eligibility requirements for MSPs, how to help clients enroll in MSPs, and the benefits of the different MSP programs.

State of the States in Brain Injury Conference

Event Description: 

The National Association of State Head Injury Administrators (NASHIA) is hosting their annual State of the States (SOS) conference on brain injury from Tuesday, September 17 through Thursday September, 19 in Eugene, OR. This will be the 35th consecutive year that NASHIA has hosted the conference. SOS brings state leaders togethers alongside brain injury advocacy organizations, partners, researchers, and providers. There will be a special content track on criminal justice held during the main conference.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month Events

Event Description: 

National Disability Employment Awareness Month takes place in October, and planning for celebratory events has begun. The purpose of DNEAM is to celebrate the value that workers with disabilities add to workplaces and affirm the commitment to ensuring disabled workers have access to quality work year round. The theme for this year's awareness month is "Access to Good Jobs for All". The Office of Disability Employment Policy has published lists of activities that any type of organization or individual can plan or participate in during the month of October.
