Money Mule Scams: Tips for Prevention, Identification, and Trauma-Informed Assistance

Event Description: 
This webinar will discuss "Money mules," who are individuals that receive and move money that came from victims of fraud. The Department of Justice and the National Center on Law and Elder Rights will provide an overview of money scams, explain how to recognize and avoid them, and share tips for elder justice advocates to assist older adults who are impacted by these scams using a trauma-informed approach.
 

The Role and Value of Volunteers in Home- and Community-Based and Long-Term Care Programs for Older Adults

Event Description: 
During this webinar, ACL will present findings from a study on the role and economic value of volunteers in ACL-funded programs that provide home- and community-based and long-term care services for older adults (i.e., Older Americans Act Title III programs and Title VII Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program and State Health Insurance Assistance Program). Program grantees will also discuss the ways they use volunteers and innovative strategies they have implemented during the pandemic to account for having fewer volunteers.
 
 

Opioid Misuse and Adult Maltreatment: Promising Practices Update from Montana and Nevada

Event Description: 
In 2020, ACL awarded two-year state Adult Protective Services enhancement grants to Montana and Nevada to innovate and enhance practices, services, data collection, and reporting to better serve clients impacted by the opioid crisis. This webinar will share an update on the key grant activities and the data collected for grant year one. Speakers will talk about their successes, challenges, and the work ahead for grant year two.
 

Engaging Families to Accelerate Boosters for Residents of Long-term Care Facilities

ACL and the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care are hosting a webinar about COVID-19 booster shots for residents of long-term care facilities. The webinar will discuss the influence family members have on residents’ decisions to get booster shots and share strategies for ACL’s networks to effectively engage families on this topic. Speakers from CMS and the White House COVID-19 Response Team will be on the call to share the latest guidance on boosters. 

Joint Webinar: RAISE Family Caregiving and Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Advisory Council

ACL has announce the first joint meeting of the RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council and the Advisory Council to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (SGRG) as they collaborate to develop the National Family Caregiving Strategy. This virtual meeting is open to the public. The Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Settings Regulation: Where Are We Now and Where Are We Going

ACL and CMS are hosting a webinar to review the criteria for home and community-based settings, the scrutiny process, and what is required of states to comply with the rule. The webinar will also explore how ACL and CMS are collaborating to ensure successful implementation of the rule and how ACL is encouraging engagement as states work toward implementation and beyond.

First Elder Justice Coordinating Council Meeting of Biden-Harris Administration

Event Description: 

ACL is hosting a virtual Elder Justice Coordinating Council (EJCC) meeting for Fall 2021. The Elder Justice Coordinating Council convenes leaders from across the federal government to discuss and address elder justice issues. The Council is comprised of leaders focused on administering programs related to abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation with federal department, agencies, and entities.
