Survivors’ Circle: A Conversation with People with Disabilities About Sexual Violence and How to Address It

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) and the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary (OASH), in collaboration with other organizations, are organizing a webinar focused on addressing sexual violence against individuals with disabilities, particularly those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD). This webinar aims to raise awareness about the higher rates of sexual assault experienced by this community and the accessibility barriers they face in accessing care and support services.

Strengthening Advocacy in the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Settings Rule, Getting the Services You Need from the Waiver: Participant Rights

Event Description: 

The Administration for Community Living is hosting a webinar as part of its series on Strengthening Advocacy in the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Settings Rule. During this webinar, the ACL will review Appendix F of the HCBS Waiver application, which outlines the safeguards provided for participants and the required fair hearing process, dispute resolution process, and grievance system. The webinar will also discuss the importance of stakeholder involvement in the application process.

The U.S. Administration for Community Living, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the National Council on Aging (NCOA) are collaborating to host the 6th Annual Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day. This virtual symposium is scheduled to take place on May 11, 2023, and is designed for public health practitioners, mental health providers, aging network professionals, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in ensuring the mental health of older adults.

Veterans Health Administration’s Strategy to Promote Aging in Place for Veterans

Event Description: 

The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) is hosting a webinar on the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) strategy to promote aging in place for veterans. The webinar will explore the Home and Community-Based Programs VHA offers and provide information on resources to assist Veterans with decision-making for long-term care decisions.

It’s More than Just Money- Strategies for Sustaining Dementia Programs

Event Description: 

During this webinar, participants will learn about the efforts of two ACL Alzheimer’s Disease Programs Initiative grantees to create sustainable dementia programs. The various aspects of community, organizational and financial sustainability will be explored. Specific strategies and methods will be discussed, including the use of outcomes data, organizational fit, potential models and funding sources to sustain programs. Event Description: 

This webinar will feature panelists with lived experience and the professionals who support them sharing their experiences with the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council’s projects to increase self-direction in housing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The projects were designed to compel systemic change through individual experiences that demonstrate the power of resources being directed by the person with the guidance and support they need to find and make a home of their own.
