Understanding the Role of the Independent Living (IL) Network Before, During and After a Disaster

Join the IL-NET National Training and Technical Assistance (T&TA) Center for Independent Living, operated by Independent Living Research Utilization (ILRU), for an upcoming webinar titled “Understanding the Role of the Independent Living (IL) Network Before, During and After a Disaster.” This webinar will include a discussion on the Administration for Community Living’s (ACL) recently released Independent Living Programs FAQs, and explore Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and Statewide Independent Living Councils (SILCs) involvement before, during, and after disaster, including the development of State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) goals around disaster and emergency management. Staff and Board members of CILs, SILCs, and Designated State Entities (DSEs) are invited to attend this event. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Communicate the importance of including disaster-related goals in State Plans for Independent Living (SPIL) goals.

  • Employ the OILP Disaster FAQ to better meet the needs of people with disabilities before, during, and after a disaster.

  • Describe examples of both simple and complex SPIL disaster/emergency management goals.

  • Demonstrate understanding of the role IL Network plays before, during, and after disaster. 

  • Synthesize peer feedback to develop localized ideas for the inclusion of disaster/emergency management into SPIL goals.
