Mapping Elder Justice Networks

Event Description: 

This webinar will introduce the new Elder Justice Networks Locator. This map can be used to help elder justice professionals locate and collaborate with elder justice networks across the nation. During the webinar, participants will learn about the creation of the map, see a live demonstration of how to use the tool, and learn how they can submit additional networks for inclusion.

Annual Disability Statistics Compendium Event

Event Description: 

The release of the Annual Disability Statistics Compendium will take place on February 11, 2020 in Washington, DC. The Compendium provides national and state-level statistics on people with disabilities and the government programs that serve the population with disabilities. This event will highlight findings from the past year along with data from Federal partners. There will also be two special panels: rural disability statistics, and opioid use and behavioral health for people with disabilities. Registration for this event is free.

Innovative Approaches to Reach Underserved Populations Living with Dementia

This webinar will explore how community-based services can be designed to better support people living with dementia in underserved communities. The webinar will focus on two case studies. The first example is from Alzheimer's Los Angeles, who uses innovative strategies to make education accessible for the Latino community.

Accessing Social Security Administration Services for LEP Individuals

Event Description: 

Individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) are protected by anti discrimination laws that guarantee their access to federal agencies and programs. This webinar will provide an overview of the federal authorities governing language access for LEP individuals, discuss general resources for accessing language assistance services throughout the federal government, and explain how to advocate for LEP individuals. Presenters will focus specifically on the language assistance services provided  by the Social Security Administration.

First comes data: Using homeless and health care data to drive housing interventions and reduce public costs

Event Description: 

This webinar looks at a case study on how the city of Boise, Idaho shares housing and homelessness data with healthcare systems and other agencies to identify people for interventions and track outcomes. Boise used this data to identify patterns and adopt the Frequent Users Systems Engagement (FUSE) initiative to provide affordable supportive housing with wraparound support services to stabilize individuals in the community.

Avoiding Inappropriate Use of Antipsychotic Drugs: Knowing Your Rights

This webinar will discuss the appropriate use and associated risks of antipsychotic drugs. The conversation will be framed through the context of individual rights. Presenters will discuss the process for providing informed consent and share resources for more information. This NCAPPS webinar will explore the role of support providers as they balance the individual's choice with "duty of care". The webinar will discuss the importance of the 'dignity of risk' from the perspective of individuals with disabilities and will review how support providers can assist in managing risks associated with certain decisions.

Legal Basics: Older Americans Act Services and the HCBS Network

This Legal Basics webinar provides an introduction to the Older Americans Act (OAA). During the webinar, participants will learn about the OAA’s history and the various aging network services supported by the law, which include caregiver support, long-term care ombudsman assistance, and services to prevent the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults. This webinar will also highlight the collaboration between OAA legal services and the home and community-based services network.
