Justice in Aging will host a webinar on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and ABLE accounts, including information and training on SSI and ABLE account basics, how ABLE accounts can increase financial independence for those receiving SSI payments, how ABLE accounts interact with SSI and Medicaid, and resources and tools.  The webinar is directed towards advocates working with older adults and people with disabilities, including SSI beneficiaries.

The webinar will take place on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. ET. 

Throughout the month Health Affairs has issued a series of articles on the broader implications of COVID-19, join Health Affairs for a briefing exploring all of those papers and exploring the broader implications and common themes across all papers. The webinar will discuss, trends in the workforce, mitigating community spread of COVID-19 in congregate settings, and modernization recommendations.

The webinar will provide an overview of DD councils, their role in systems changes across the country, and give viewers a chance to learn more about the innovative initiatives that DD Councils are taking to advance employment opportunities and outcomes for people with DD.

Join the ADA National Network in Collaboration with the National Institute on Disability Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research for a  webinar on the role of adaptive sports technologies. The webinar will explore the role adaptive sports play in the lives of youths with disabilities, a conversation with former paralympian, Dr. Anjali Forber-Pitt, and how to address the remaining barriers to adaptive sports.

Join Applied Self Direction for the next webinar in their “from your desk” series. This session will discuss Medicare Advantage and new ways to take advantage of what the program has to offer to expand access to self direction. The session will also examine ways that Medicare dollars can be used to expand self directed services for older adults.

The next webinar in the series is on veteran directed care, its expansion, and updates to the program at the federal level. Speakers will hear about important partnerships between ACL and the Veteran’s Health Association.

This session is also part of the Applied Self Direction virtual conference. The session will feature a panel of speakers discussing emerging workforce practices for self-direction including: a tool that enables connections between disabled people and their families seeking staffing support to professionals and community members, collaborating with universities to create educational opportunities and credits for working as a direct care worker, and an e-learning skills-training platform for self-direction workers. 

This session from Applied Self Direction’s ongoing virtual conference series will discuss how Medicaid can pay for the proportional room and board costs for  a live-in personal care worker. The session will explore how the caregiver’s free housing can in effect act as a rent subsidy for a Medicaid recipient who otherwise cannot afford housing and can offset wages otherwise owed to the caregiver for providing personal care to the Medicaid recipient.

Justice in Aging is hosting a webinar on information advocates of older adults should know regarding the unwinding of the COVID-19 Medicaid continuous coverage requirements. This webinar will provide advocates with information about the Medicaid unwinding process, including key dates and specific challenges individuals dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid may encounter during this transition. Presenters will identify steps that advocates can take with their states, partners, and clients to address these challenges and minimize coverage disruptions.

Join CMS for a webinar that will provide an overview of the 1915(i) HCBS State Plan Option. The webinar will include discussions of effective approaches to development of 1915(i) programs, information on additional needs-based criteria required for specific services, an overview of maintenance of effort (MOE) requirements, and more. At the conclusion of the presentation there will be a Q+A portion of the webinar.
