Innovative Solutions to Address Social Isolation in Older Adults During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Event Description: 

This webinar will highlight unique solutions to address social isolation in older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar will provide updated ACL guidance and resources to support Aging networks. Participants will hear from presenters about innovative local initiatives to combat social isolation during the pandemic, including a Wellness Recovery Action Plan to help older adults stay healthy and connected to their communities; and a partnership deploying the real-time, practical use of the Upstream Social Isolation Risk Screener by AAAs in Maryland. 

Rethinking Employment Services and Supports in the COVID-19 Era

Event Description: 

ACL is partnering with DHHS, ONC, and Mission Analytics to conduct a three-part webinar series on how the pandemic may present opportunities to rethink and redesign HCBS. This first webinar will focus on Supported Employment Services. Presenters will review Appendix K approaches in ID/DD waivers, service delivery strategies, and potential changes to payment structures. Future webinars will discuss Day Services and Transportation.

Achieving the Promise of the ADA

Event Description: 
The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on July 26, 1990. This year is the 30th anniversary of the ADA, and ACL is co-hosting a virtual celebration with the Office of Civil Rights. This event will focus on the progress we have made during this time as well as the challenges to inclusion that remain today. 
 

Social Care Referrals Challenge Competition

Event Description: 

ACL is hosting a webinar to provide more information about their recently launched Social Care Referrals Challenge Competition. This challenge is designed to encourage state and community leaders in the aging and disability network, health care systems, health plans and health IT vendors to integrate medical and social care through optimizing interoperable and scalable technology platforms. This challenge consists of three stages, with prizes totaling $500,000. The webinar will discuss how you can participate in Phase 1.

National Voluntary Consensus Guidelines for State APS Systems: Updates and Revisions

Event Description: 

ACL’s Adult Protective Services Technical Assistance Resource Center is hosting a webinar to present the updates and revisions to the Voluntary Consensus Guidelines for State APS Systems. The purpose of the guidelines is to assist states in developing effective APS systems. The webinar will present ACL’s process of updating the guidelines, updates and revisions made to the guidelines, and findings from research done in conjunction with updating the guidelines.

This webinar will be held on Tuesday, July 21 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm ET.

Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired: People of Color, Disabilities and Mental Health

Event Description: 

The MHDD-NTC is hosting a webinar to explore the inequities stemmed from the intersection of disability, mental health, and being a person of color. Speaker Morénike Giwa Onaiwu will highlight the challenges people of color with a disability and mental health condition(s) face and discuss strategies and practices on addressing those challenges and how to become a strong ally for people of color.

Addressing Social Isolation through Technology Solutions

Event Description: 

ACL is hosting a webinar on how technology can be used to mitigate social isolation. The webinar will review how specific hardware and software options can be used to increase social engagement. Participants will also learn about resources for acquiring and distributing technology, as well as mechanisms for training older adults and adults with disabilities to use technology solutions.

National Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day 2020

Event Description: 

SAMHSA is hosting an online discussion in honor of this observance. The discussion will include practical ideas to promote connection and recovery for older adults with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. This meeting will address the challenge of combating social isolation for older adults during the pandemic and will feature several speakers from the Administration.
