Preventing Tax Foreclosures for Older Adults: Accessing Tax Relief Options

Event Description:

The National Center on Law & Elder Rights (NCLER) is hosting a virtual training session focused on preventing tax foreclosure, particularly among low-income and older homeowners. This training will emphasize the importance of ensuring that these individuals have access to all available exemptions and discounts, as many older adults who are at risk of tax foreclosure have not taken advantage of these resources. It will also provide an overview of the available options, including abatements and exemptions, discuss strategies to ensure clients are maximizing all available benefits, and briefly touch on the impact that the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Tyler v. Hennepin County may have on the property tax foreclosure process.

Speakers:

  • Odette Williamson, National Consumer Law Center

  • Andrea Bopp Stark, National Consumer Law Center

  • Kristopher Smith, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Jacksonville

  • Sarah Mancini, National Consumer Law Center

This webinar will take place on Tuesday, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
