On September 11, 2023, ADvancing States submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on the CY 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM). ADvancing States strongly supports CMS’s proposed changes to authorize Medicare payment for Caregiver Training Service (CTS) and to address health equity through the proposed assessment and navigation services.
ADvancing States specifically supports CMS’s proposed coding and payment changes for Community Health Integration (CHI) services, Principal Illness Navigation (PIN) services and Social Determinant of Health (SDOH) Risk Assessment, as well as the clarification that community-based organization (CBO) staff may deliver these services. The comment letter includes recommendations to CMS to consider strategies to invest in community-based services to ensure state systems and providers are able to meet individuals’ needs as identified through these assessment and navigation services.
