Aging Services Director

The Kansas Department for Aging & Disability Services (KDADS) is seeking an Aging Services Director. This position directs the Aging Services Division within Aging Services Commission; provides program oversight, directs team members, implements policy and allocates resources. The position works collaboratively as a key member of the commission’s leadership team to support overall Aging Services goals and objectives in accordance with federal and state regulations and KDADS policies. In addition to these duties this position is also responsible for implementing collaboration between federal and state agencies and departments to improve aging and dementia health and independence outcomes in the state. The position facilitates, coordinates, guides, and assists the work of assigned task forces, work groups, subcommittees and advisory groups.
 
Key Responsibilites: 
 
Leadership & Program Management 
  • This position directs the Aging Services Division within the Aging Services Commission and serves as a primary point of contact for Administration of Community Living and subject matter expert for OAA, SCA, and other Aging Services. 
  • Incumbent must establish and maintain effective working relationships at all organizational levels within Aging Services Commission and KDADS as well as with other agencies and the public; coordinates program efforts with functions and programs of other agencies and provides direction and coaching to staff.
  • Lead the development of the Aging State Plan and provide oversight to ensure the plan is followed. Responsible for collaborating with the Advisory Council on Aging.
Program Development / Compliance
  • The incumbent interprets, directs, and/or coordinates Aging Services policies and guidelines through contractors, vendors, providers, or other managers; verifies the work performed follows agency policies as well as state and federal laws. 
  • Incumbent directs staff in the implementation and monitoring of grants and contracts; Interfaces with KDADS Operations Financial and Information Services and directs staff to verify timely payments to providers and contractors. 
Public Education and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Promote awareness of all senior services programs, regulations, laws, operating procedures, eligibility requirements, and accessibility issues. Work with public or community groups in planning and providing effective education regarding available services.
Dementia Program Coordination
  • Work to create and develop a dementia program in Kansas.
Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in planning, organizing, and directing the work of a department, program or agency. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
