The I&R Support Center hosts webinars on a regular basis with I&R Specialists concerning topics of interest to those who work in the field of aging and disability Information and Referral/Assistance. Webinars are recorded and are available for on-demand viewing at no cost on ADvancing States IQ, our online learning center. Here to Stay provides tools and advice to make preventive home maintenance easier and more cost-effective for older adults through interactive online tools and in-person workshops in select communities. Participants learned ways to utilize Here to Stay resources to empower senior homeowners in their community to age more safely, cost-effectively, and confidently at home.

State Systems and Resources for People Living With Traumatic Brain Injury

During this webinar, participants strengthened their knowledge of traumatic brain injury (TBI), the role of state TBI systems and programs, and I&R services for this population. Along with a national overview, this webinar featured two state TBI programs that have robust I&R systems for the people living with TBI and have partnered with other state agencies to broaden the reach of their programs.

Benefits Outreach: Promising Practices that Work

During this webinar, participants heard from ADvancing States and NCOA’s 2019 Innovations in Benefits Outreach contest awardees. Presenters shared about their state and local outreach practices to engage, educate, and assist individuals in need of benefits assistance. The New Jersey Division of Aging Services shared about NJSave and Feeding the Gulf Coast provided information about their senior food bag program.

Promoting Access to Transportation Options with the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center

This webinar discussed the resources of the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC), which works to promote the availability and accessibility of transportation options for older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers. Participants also learned about the new national “Every Ride Counts” campaign to support local community efforts to promote transportation programs.

The Role of Home Modification in Promoting Aging in Place and Community

As part of an Administration for Community Living (ACL)-funded project focused on home modification, ADvancing States and the University of Southern California (USC) Leonard Davis School of Gerontology hosted this webinar on the role of the home in promoting aging in place and community. During this event, presenters reviewed the fundamentals of home modification, explained different types of agencies and funding sources that offer home modification services, and covered practical skills to use when an older adult or caregiver needs to address fall and safety hazards in the home.

Assistive Technology Act Programs: Improving Access to AT for People of All Ages

Assistive Technology Act Programs increase access to, and acquisition of, assistive technology (AT) devices and services for individuals with disabilities and older adults. Programs support a continuum of AT services, from public awareness and information and assistance to loans and reuse programs. This webinar discussed the Assistive Technology Act, state programs and services, and ways that AT can be useful to individuals across the lifespan.
