In conjunction with several organizations, the National Center on Elder Abuse is hosting an upcoming webinar for the 2023 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. This session will focus on the importance of a trauma-informed approach in preventing and addressing elder abuse while promoting resilience in older adults. Attendees will hear about the cumulative and complex trauma histories of diverse older adults, explore the connection between trauma and elder abuse, and learn strategies to provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed support. 

The next virtual meeting of the Elder Justice Coordinating Council (EJCC) is scheduled for Thursday, June 8, and will address the importance of involving older adults in preparedness planning for disasters, emergencies, and pandemics. It will also discuss the future of the elder justice movement in preparation for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The EJCC convenes leaders from federal departments, agencies, and entities responsible for programs related to the abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation of older adults.

The American Society on Aging has organized an upcoming webinar that explores hoarding disorder and its impact on older adults. The webinar will focus on understanding the clinical features of hoarding disorder and discussing evidence-based treatment options specifically tailored to older adults. The webinar will also discuss local community responses and resources, along with successful assessments and interventions that can be integrated into care settings.

In celebration of Older Americans Month, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is hosting a series of four webinars on elder fraud prevention and response networks. Elder justice professionals, networks, intermediaries, financial institutions, and law enforcement are welcome to attend one or all event sessions, either live or on demand.

On April 10, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a proposed rule for fiscal year (FY) 2024, outlining updates to Medicare payment policies and rates for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) under the Skilled Nursing Facility Prospective Payment System (SNF PPS). The rule also includes proposals for the SNF Quality Reporting Program (QRP) and the SNF Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Program. CMS is publishing this proposed rule in accordance with legal requirements for annual updates to Medicare payment policies for SNFs.

This webinar will inform advocates about the recent decision by Congress to end the Medicaid continuous coverage requirement, which had been in place since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting from April 1, 2023, states have begun the process of re-evaluating Medicaid eligibility, affecting millions of individuals with disabilities who rely on Medicaid for their healthcare coverage.
