Substance Abuse Among Older Adults: An Emerging Public Health Crisis

Event Description:

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is hosting a webinar to discuss the facts behind the opioid public health crisis and offer possible solutions. Rural Americans are twice as likely to die from opioid misuse as their urban counterparts, and adults ages 45 and older comprise nearly half of these deaths. Experts predict that the combination of the rural opioid epidemic and the aging of America’s population will place enormous pressure on health care systems, emergency response services, law enforcement, and other community services in the years to come.
