The Administration for Community Living (ACL) announced a funding opportunity to support the enhancement of state Lifespan Respite Care systems. The program aims to strengthen state capacity to provide coordinated, accessible, and quality respite services for family caregivers of individuals of all ages, disabilities, and chronic conditions.
Funded applicants will be expected to collaborate with statewide respite coalitions and the state’s Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC)/No Wrong Door System. Projects should focus on expanding volunteer options, improving respite provider training, identifying and addressing service gaps, and reaching underserved populations. Applicants are encouraged to align their proposals with the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers and will be required to support data collection and reporting as outlined in the Lifespan Respite Reauthorization Act of 2020.
ACL anticipates awarding approximately seven cooperative agreements. Awards will range from $200,000 to $400,000 per budget period, with a total project period of 36 months. A 25% non-federal cost share is required. Only one application per state will be funded.
Eligible applicants include state agencies that administer the state’s Older Americans Act programs, Medicaid programs, or are otherwise designated by the Governor to administer respite services under the Lifespan Respite Care Act. States that have not received a Lifespan Respite grant previously will be prioritized.
While letters of intent are requested, no due date is specified.
Applications are due by August 15, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
