The webinar, Systemic and Individual Advocacy to Reduce Restraint Use in Nursing Facilities, will review the law, examine the federal government’s various initiatives to reduce restraint use and discuss individual advocacy strategies that empower a resident or resident’s representative to reject any use of restraints for a resident. Federal nursing facility law states that restraints must not be used for discipline or a facility’s convenience. According to Justice in Aging, some facilities routinely restrain ten or twenty percent (or more) of their residents. Advocates working with older adults who reside in nursing facilities and their families are encouraged to participate in the webinar. Capacity for this session is limited to 1,000 participants, and all participants can access audio through the computer or by phone.
