Dr. Joshua M. Wiener’s Legacy: Keep on Marching!

Event Description: 

Dr. Joshua M. Wiener dedicated his life to advocating for and researching aging and long-term services and supports (LTSS). In honor of his legacy, RTI is hosting a symposium focusing on the issues to which he dedicated his career, including long-term care financing, LTSS quality, and integrated models of care. This event will be held May 11, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. ET. Participants may attend the symposium in person at the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation's Barbara Jordan Conference Center in Washington, DC, or may view a livestream of the event online.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day: Building Strong Support for Elders

Event Description: 

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day will be observed Tuesday June 15, 2018. As part of this observance, a special event to discuss the future of elder justice will be held June 5, 2018 at the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC. This event will begin in the morning with the Elder Justice Coordinating Council Spring Meeting. In the afternoon, the 4th Global Summit for Elder Justice will take place, where updates will be given on ongoing international and national initiatives.

Interagency TBI Conference

Event Description: 

The deadline to submit paper and poster proposals for the Federal Interagency Conference on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), co-sponsored by NIDILRR (the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research), is Saturday, March 31. The theme of the 2018 conference is TBI Across the Lifespan: Research to Practice to Policy. This conference brings together clinicians, researchers, consumers, and policymakers to share cutting-edge advances in TBI research and clinical care. This conference will take place June 11 to 13, 2018 in Washington, DC.

2018 Healthy Aging Summit

Event Description: 

This year’s Healthy Aging Summit will take place in Washington, DC from July 16 to July 17. This event will provide information about the latest on preventing disease and maximizing health in older Americans. The 2018 Healthy Aging Summit goals are to:

  • Explore the science on healthy aging;
  • Identify knowledge gaps;
  • Promote prevention;  and
  • Support people aging in place and in their community.

Living Well with Dementia

Event Description: 

Kaiser Health News is hosting an event on living well with dementia. This event will take place on Tuesday, February 13 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET at the Barbara Jordan Conference Center in the Kaiser Family Foundation offices at 1330 G Street NW, Washington, DC. This will be a discussion about improving care and services for people with dementia and supporting their caregivers. Social Isolation: An Important Health and Public Health Issue and a Significant Cost to Medicare

Event Description: 

The AARP Public Policy Institute is hosting a solutions forum on social isolation. New research from the AARP Public Policy Institute finds that a lack of social contacts among older adults is associated with an estimated $6.7 billion in additional Medicare spending annually. Social isolation is a determinant of health, and has been shown to lead to poorer health outcomes and even premature death.

Annual Disability Statistics Compendium Event

Event Description: 

The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Disability Statistics and Demographics (StatsRRTC) are hosting an event for the release of the 2017 Annual Disability Statistics Compendium. Participants are invited to join the event either in-person or online. The event will include a briefing and overview of the new Compendium, a data panel discussion, as well as several invited speakers.
