Applied Self Direction is hosting a panel on May 6, 2021 to discuss the value of a self-direction model in the wake of the pandemic. This event is an opportunity for people to share their personal experiences with self-direction, whether you are a participant, family member, FMS provider, or a supporter of the model. Andy Burness, President at Burness, will facilitate this discussion panel and present his theory of change for public interest communications.

Applied Self Direction's next session in their Virtual Conference Series will be held on May, 2021. Lynn Breedlove will discuss how self-direction is working around the world including how other countries perceive the underlying values of self-direction and their impetus for creating self-direction programs. The session will examine the supports available in other countries to help people be successful in self-direction and discuss whether any of these support strategies would be “value-added” for self-direction in the U.S.

This webinar will share highlights from a new NASHP report, Paying Family Caregivers through Medicaid Consumer-Directed Programs: State Opportunities and Innovations, that explores states’ approaches to consumer-directed programs supporting older adults and people with physical disabilities. During the webinar, state officials from Virginia and Connecticut will describe how they have developed consumer direction programs that support older adults and people with physical disabilities and their family caregivers. 

 

This webinar will address how care management for individuals with diabetes has adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will feature speakers sharing how they used telehealth to provide education and support. These speakers will describe the best practices they discovered in connecting people with housing, food, medication, and more. The event will also include a speaker with diabetes who will share their experiences during the pandemic.

Join the National Paralysis Resource Center for a webinar on empowering women living with paralysis. Presenters Cody Unser and Dani Izzie will discuss the various barriers to routine OB/GYN care and prenatal care, provide strategies for overcoming them, and share their personal experiences as women living with paralysis in addressing the challenges they have faced in obtaining reproductive healthcare.

The Virginia Governor’s Conference on Aging has opened registration for their virtual May conference. The conference aims to bring professionals together to engage on critical issues and needs facing older adults and their caregivers as we continually adapt. The 2021 virtual conference will yield recommendations to current and future policy makers on measures to be taken to make Virginia one of the most livable states for all ages.

The FCC is hosting a consumer-focused webinar on the Emergency Broadband Benefit on April 27, 2021. The webinar will provide consumers and outreach partners with an overview of the Emergency Broadband Benefit program, eligibility information, and enrollment procedures. During the event, the FCC will discuss the materials developed for their partners’ use in conducting outreach and education about the program.
