State Policies and Practices to Support Person-Centered Planning Across the Lifespan for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Their Aging Caregivers

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has released a set of resources aimed at supporting state Medicaid and partner agencies in designing and delivering supports and services to meet the needs of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), as well as their aging parents and caregivers. These resources cover a variety of topics, including strategies for how state Medicaid agencies can anticipate the needs of adults with I/DD, ways states can design and implement person-centered planning to support adults with I/DD, and state policies and practices to support aging caregivers of adults with I/DD.

Application Period is Open for NCAPPS Technical Assistance

The application for the next round of NCAPPS Technical Assistance is now available. Technical Assistance will be provided to up to ten States, Tribes, or Territories for up to 100 hours per year for up to two years. Technical assistance will help advance person-centered thinking, planning and practice to support people with disabilities and older adults with long-term service and support needs. Applications are due by July 30, 2021.

Spring 2021 Newsletter: HCBS Quality Matters

The Rehabilitation Research Training Center (RRTC) on home and community-based services (HCBS) recently shared their Spring 2021 newsletter titled HCBS Quality Matters. The newsletter provides an inside look at the RRTC’s work and the HCBS studies on which they collaborate. The Spring 2021 edition highlights the needs of people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and includes stories on health disparities, employment, and person-centered planning.

Five Competency Domains for Staff Who Facilitate Person-Centered Planning

This resource was developed for human service agency leadership whose role is directing the organization and delivery of services and supports. The five competency domains include: Strengths-Based, Culturally Informed, Whole Person-Focused; Cultivating Connections Inside the System and Out; Rights, Choice, and Control; Partnership, Teamwork, Communication, and Facilitation; and Documentation, Implementation, and Monitoring.

Socially Vulnerable Older Adults & Medical-legal Partnership

This issue brief discusses the pressing legal needs of older adults and the ways that coordinating health care, legal, and social services can improve their well-being.
