The National Institute on Justice (NIJ) has released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) seeking applications for research and evaluation projects in topic areas related to the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of older adults.
The five topic areas include:
- Evaluation of programs that seek to prevent, intervene in, or respond to the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of older adults
- Research on financial fraud against older adults, including knowledge building around scam prevention messaging
- Research on formal and informal caregivers who abuse (either financially, physically, sexually, and/or emotionally) or neglect older adults, to inform intervention and prevention program development
- Forensic research involving the development of radiographic evidence and bioinformatic approaches relevant to the physical abuse of older adults
- Research examining the role of emerging technologies in fraud and exploitation
Eligible applicants include state governments, Native American Tribal governments, institutions of higher education, and non-profit organizations, among others. Selected applicants will be required to submit specific deliverables and progress reports according to the timeline established by the NIJ.
Applications are due on Tuesday, May 19, at 11:59 p.m. The anticipated project start date is Friday, January 1, 2027.
