Justice in Aging, in collaboration with the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network, recently released a new issue brief examining the root causes of barriers to home and community-based services (HCBS) in tribal communities.
HCBS are critical to ensuring older adults and people with disabilities can receive the supports they need to remain independent in their homes and communities. However, people in tribal communities face unique barriers to accessing these services. This brief provides policy recommendations to increase access to Medicaid HCBS for American Indians and Alaska Natives in ways that uphold tribal sovereignty and honor tribal nations’ values in delivering care to their communities.
