Evidence for the Impact of the Money Follows the Person Program

This report looks at how states with strong MFP programs compare to states without or with limited MFP programs. Findings show that states with more robust MFP programs reduced utilization of institutional LTSS at a higher rate than other states. In addition, these states also rebalanced their LTSS systems more efficiently compared with other states.

Older Americans Act: HHS Could Help Rural Service Providers by Centralizing Information on Promising Practices

Older Americans in the Workforce

This report examines older adults in the workforce. It uses data on retirement-age Americans’ incomes, health, and activities gathered from the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). An increasing number of older adults are participating in the labor force, many of them college-educated. This participation growth is driven largely by improved health.

Support Needs of People With I/DD and Co-Occurring Mental Health Challenges and Their Families

This brief focuses on the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are also experiencing mental illness. The Arc explored the unique challenges faced by these individuals through focus groups and national panels. This brief summarizes the findings from these activities and includes recommendations for the development of new training, systems change activities, research, and greater public awareness around I/DD and mental health issues.

Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services Enrollment and Spending

This issue brief highlights Medicaid HCBS enrollment and spending data from the Kaiser Family Foundation's 17th annual state survey. The report found that nearly all Medicaid HCBS enrollment (86%) and spending (93%) went to services provided at state option. This optional nature of most HCBS covered populations and services puts individuals at risk of losing services if the current structure of Medicaid financing were to change.

Driverless Cars and Accessibility – Designing the Future of Transportation for People with Disabilities

This report highlights the potentially transformational power of autonomous vehicles (AVs). AVs have the opportunity to significantly benefit individuals with disabilities, but only if automakers work to ensure accessible design. The report states that key partners must work together on universal design now so that AVs can be developed to meet every potential driver's needs from the beginning, including wheelchair users.

Nonfatal Assaults and Homicides Among Adults Aged ≥60 Years — United States, 2002–2016

This report was published as part of the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. It examines the rate of violence against adults aged sixty and over using fifteen years of data on assaults and homicides. The results indicate that during this time frame, the nonfatal assault rate has jumped significantly, especially among older men. The homicide rate for older men also increased.This study demonstrates the need for improved violence prevention efforts among older adults.

State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program: 2019 Revised Primer for State Agencies

This updated primer explains key provisions of the Ombudsman rule. It highlights promising practices for coordination between State Agencies and the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program in long-term services and supports. The report was co-authored with the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care, who serves as a partner in the Administration for Community Living funded National Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center (NORC).
