A Social Marketing Approach to Challenging Stigma

This article is aimed at developing tools to help human service providers form partnerships to address and prevent stigmatization of people with disabilities. The Idaho State University Institute of Rural Health (ISU-IRH) developed two anti-stigma social marketing campaigns that incorporated methods to empower people, campaign design and distribution, and methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of the campaign.

Homeownership for People with Disabilities Forms

The Illinois Homeownership Coalition for People with Disability (HCPD) has a comprehensive set of documents pertaining to its advocacy and assistance for homeownership. The organization’s goal is to assist people with disability in purchasing their homes, allowing them to maintain independence and living in their communities. Developing a Stigma Reduction Initiative Resource Kit

Certainly, stigma is one of the more formidable obstacles to a transformed mental health system. This resource kit is intended to raise awareness of mental health and help counter the stigma and discrimination faced by people with mental illnesses. Users are invited to use the kit with event planning, partnership development, outreach to schools and businesses, mental health resources, marketing to the general public, and grassroots outreach.

Family-to-Family Fact Sheets in Spanish

The Parent to Parent of New York State– Family to Family Healthcare Information and Education Center developed a number of fact sheets in Spanish to assist the parents they serve. Fact Sheet titles include: HCBS Waiver Programs, Navigating Doctors Appointments, Searching the Internet for Medical Information, Medication Tips, Record Keeping Suggestions, Relieving Stress. They have also developed a 34 page Care Notebook where families can keep a complete record of a child’s medical history.

Mental Health: It\'s Part of Our Lives at Work

One in five people in a typical office is likely to experience a mental illness each year. Experts increasingly acknowledge how work is a key factor in supporting mental wellness, warding off symptoms of mental illness and helps throughout the recovery process. This online brochure offers information, reviews the potential risks and benefits of telling your employer that you have a mental illness, and offers links to resources that provide information on mental health in the workplace.

Housing Information Briefs and Brochures: West Virginia

WV Real Choice worked in collaboration with other agencies and organizations to create improvements in long term support systems so persons with disabilities and/or long term illnesses can make their own choices and have the necessary supports to live and work in their communities. The grant worked on many housing activities. Their products include a housing guide, information briefs, brochures, press release and PSA created by the program to explain and address housing needs.

Seeing Seniors: Shaping The Future of Aging in NH –Video Clip

ServiceLink, the New Hampshire ADRC grantee, along with New Hampshire Public Television and Easter Seals NH/Seniors Count have developed a year-long community outreach project. The partnership resulted in six feature stories on a nightly newsmagazine and community forums in four locations across the state bringing seniors and caregivers together with local leaders to begin planning the kind of communities they want as they age. Family-to-Family Health Care Information & Education Center brochure: Massachusetts

Review an example of how grantees can create informational brochure for families of children and youth with special health care needs. The outreach material explains the centers benefits including training, mentors, advocacy and listserv services. There are three versions, one in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Community Resources Poster and Cards: Indiana

Family to Family Grantee, the Indiana Parent Information Network, developed and shared two of their outreach tools. The poster and community resource cards are to be placed at physician’s offices and clinics. The posters were laminated so that local numbers could be added with dry erase. The cards also allow space to individualize the community resources being referred.

Maryland Medicaid Home and Community-Based Long Term Care Services Booklet

This guide describes Medicaid services that are designed to help individuals who are at risk of institutionalization remain in their homes. It describes the range of home and community-based services available through Medicaid and can help consumers, families, and health care professionals make informed decisions about long-term care services. This brochure was developed as part of their Real Choice grant in 2005 where over 7.500 copies were distributed. Review their latest 2006 version.
