Find a summary of the CLASS Act developed by the AARP Public Policy Institute. The legislation creates a voluntary national insurance program for long-term services and supports (LTSS) to help address the financial challenges many American households face when confronted with the high cost of LTSS. This fact sheet succinctly answers questions such as who can participate in CLASS, what are the benefit amounts, how are premiums computed and how CLASS interacts with Medicaid.

What are the housing challenges facing older adults? Find out in this report that also explores strategies to better enable older adults to age in place or in their community. It discusses accessible, safe, and affordable housing, access to social services and transportation, and housing models that help to allow aging in place. Also included is a link to an online toolkit, and a series of fact sheets on housing for seniors.

Several of ACA’s provisions directly impact eldercare and disability employers and direct-care staff. This is the first in a series of fact sheets describing these. Key health reform provisions related to investments in direct-care worker training and workforce development are highlighted. These include national advisory panels as well as grant opportunities for states and individual employers. These provisions will be enacted over several years.

The Departments of HHS, Labor, and Treasury issued regulations to implement a new Patient’s Bill of Rights under the ACA – which will help children (and eventually all Americans) with pre-existing conditions gain coverage and keep it, protect Americans’ choice of doctors and end lifetime limits on the care consumers may receive. How is New York providing concise information about the details and requirements for their MIG program? Fact sheets are one way New York is providing this information efficiently. Samples of some of these are attached and cover topics such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Building Assets and Local Asset Summits. These could be useful samples to other MIG states.

A Southwestern Pennsylvania demonstration program has been initiated to promote relationship-centered care for elders and people living with disabilities in need of home and community-based services and supports. It involves a series of five three-day train-the-trainer programs based on the state model for personal care aides (PCAs). Included are the announcement and a fact sheet on direct-care workers in Pennsylvania.

How is Maryland marketing its Employed Individuals with Disabilities (EID) Program, which offers Medical Assistance (Medicaid) coverage to Marylanders with disabilities who work for pay? Attached are samples of the many marketing materials for this program, including a reminder card, article and posters. Informing consumers about this option is vital to a successful program and Maryland’s approach could be useful to other MIG grantees wishing to do the same.

How are states getting support for the establishment of proposed funds? North Dakota created a proposal, fact sheet, alliance members list, a planning meeting invitation and a guide for the development of a letter of support for the establishment of a state-wide affordable housing fund to assist communities with their unmet housing needs. Samples of these documents are attached and could be helpful for other states looking for ideas to do the same.

How is South Dakota getting the facts out to employers about hiring people with disabilities? One way is through an informational fact listing "Facts for Employers," "Tax Incentives for Employers" and "Resources for Employers". A sample is attached below and could serve as a template for other MIG grantees.
