This updated annual report examines spending in the functional areas of state budgets and includes fiscal 2017-2019 data. The report looks at spending in the areas of elementary and secondary education, higher education, public assistance, Medicaid, corrections, transportation, and all other. It includes state-by-state breakdowns, highlights data on capital expenditures by program area, and reviews revenue sources.

This brief examines information about rural older adults using data from the 2012 to 2016 American Community Survey. It compares rural older adults to their counterparts and also looks at level of rurality within the rural older adult population.

AARP's Public Policy Institute (PPI) publishes a monthly update on employment numbers for people ages 55 and over. This report draws from monthly data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. AARP PPI has recently released its September 2019 version of the digest. Although the job rate growth slowed slightly, the unemployment rate declined to 3.5 percent overall, and 2.4 percent for people ages 55 and older.

This data profile compares caregivers who used NFCSP services such as education or respite care to those caregivers who did not use these services, including caregivers who exclusively used AAA services. The profile also examines caregiver characteristics including age, relationship to care recipient, and level of caregiving intensity.

CMCS has released the FFY 2018 Adult Core Set data. This data set provides information on 23 adult measures voluntarily reported by states. Recently released publications include an overview of 2018 findings, a core set chart pack, a summary of performance on measures, and the 2018 quality measures dataset.

The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society published an article looking at the link between diet and potential frailty in older age. Researchers pulled data from the Health, Aging, and Body Composition (Health ABC) Study and analyzed participants’ diets, activity, and shift between the categories of robust, pre-frail, and frail over four years.

This issue brief highlights Medicaid HCBS enrollment and spending data from the Kaiser Family Foundation's 17th annual state survey. The report found that nearly all Medicaid HCBS enrollment (86%) and spending (93%) went to services provided at state option. This optional nature of most HCBS covered populations and services puts individuals at risk of losing services if the current structure of Medicaid financing were to change.

This report was published as part of the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. It examines the rate of violence against adults aged sixty and over using fifteen years of data on assaults and homicides. The results indicate that during this time frame, the nonfatal assault rate has jumped significantly, especially among older men. The homicide rate for older men also increased.This study demonstrates the need for improved violence prevention efforts among older adults.

This study examines elder financial exploitation Suspicious Activity Reports (EFE SARs) filed with the federal government by financial institutions such as banks and money services businesses between 2013 and 2017. The goal of this report is to analyze the complex problem of elder financial exploitation and identify ways to improve prevention and response.
