Workplace Accommodation Among Persons with Disabilities: A Systematic Review of Its Effectiveness and Barriers or Facilitators

A systematic review was conducted to review the effectiveness of workplace accommodation (WA) regarding employment, work ability, and cost-benefit among disabled people. There was moderate evidence that specific types of WA (vocational counselling and guidance, education and self-advocacy, help of others, changes in work schedules, work organization, and special transportation) promote employment among physically disabled persons and reduce costs.

Barriers to Accessible Health Care for Medicaid Eligible People With Disabilities: A Comparative Analysis

Using data from 360 health care providers and 540 Medicaid eligible people with disabilities (PWD), the authors compared perceived barriers to care from the perspective of both providers and PWD. The results indicated major variations in provider and PWD perceptions. Policy responses to these findings should address the specific needs of people with different types of disabling conditions rather than assuming all PWD face similar challenges in accessing and utilizing health care.

The Money Follows the Person (MFP) demonstration grant program helps long-term residents of institutions move back to the community. This report aims to answer several questions about the expenditures (medical care and long-term services and supports [LTSS] expenditures) of people who transition from institutional care to community-based LTSS.

The Coverage Gap: Uninsured Poor Adults in States that Do Not Expand Medicaid – An Update

This report provides statistics and information about uninsured individuals in the Medicaid coverage gap. The Medicaid gap is a term used to describe uninsured individuals who do not have enough income to qualify for ACA subsidies and who live in a state that has elected not to expand their Medicaid program. According to the Kaiser report, approximately four million individuals are in the Medicaid gap across the country. Of the uninsured individuals, 17% are in the 55-64 age range.

National Disability Policy: A Progress Report - October 2014

This report fulfills NCD’s statutory mandate to annually report and make recommendations concerning the state of disability policy in the United States. Specifically, the 2014 Progress Report focuses on seven key areas: the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD), employment access and inclusion, subminimum wage, education outcomes, Medicaid managed care, mental health care, and data trends in disability policy.

Money Follows the Person (MFP) Demonstration: Overview of State Grantee Progress, July to December 2013

Review the progress by the 42 MFP grantee states (including the District of Columbia) that are actively transitioning MFP participants. MFP grants support state efforts to help individuals living in institutions move to home and community-based settings if that is where they wish to receive LTSS. During the second half of 2013, states transitioned 5,485 new enrollees, bringing the total number of people that had ever transitioned to the community through MFP to 40,693 at the close of 2013.

Financial Capability of Adults with Disabilities - Findings from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation 2012 National Financially Capability Study

The National Disability Institute released a report on the financial capability of people with disabilities. The report shared insights on various agencies' work to advance financial capability for youth and adults with disabilities. The report found that people with disabilities are less financially stable than people without disabilities in nearly all categories including making ends meet, planning ahead, managing financial products and financial knowledge and decision making.

Medicaid Expenditures for Long-Term Services and Supports in FFY 2012

The annual Medicaid Long Term Services and Supports expenditure report for FFY 2012 is now available. The report includes Medicaid expenditures for all LTSS, including institutional and non-institutional settings, by service category and state. The data comes primarily from CMS-64 reports.
