In 2017, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation launched the Accountable Health Communities (AHC) Model to test whether connecting Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries to community resources can improve health outcomes and reduce costs by addressing health-related social needs (HRSNs)—adverse social conditions that affect health and health care. This report describes the Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries who were eligible for the AHC Model in the Assistance Track.

ACL has announced that the theme of Older Americans Month (OAM) 2021 is Communities of Strength. Older adults have built resilience and strength over their lives through successes, failures, joys, and difficulties. Their stories and contributions help to support and inspire others. In May, ACL will celebrate the strength of older adults and the Aging Network, with special emphasis on the power of connection and engagement in building strong communities.

The Leavitt Partners released a report reviewing the Medicaid non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) benefit, focusing on the program integrity of the benefit. . The report examines challenges and opportunities for Medicaid directors in improving Medicaid NEMT program integrity.

This paper describes the roles of mobility managers and explores the benefits of focusing on the individual and their unique transportation challenges. The report highlights emerging innovations from five case studies and presents the results of a national survey and inventory of mobility managers. It also discusses the future role of mobility managers in long-term services and supports.

This report highlights the potentially transformational power of autonomous vehicles (AVs). AVs have the opportunity to significantly benefit individuals with disabilities, but only if automakers work to ensure accessible design. The report states that key partners must work together on universal design now so that AVs can be developed to meet every potential driver's needs from the beginning, including wheelchair users.

This report explores innovations that have the potential to improve quality of life for Americans who live with physical or cognitive burdens due to aging or disability. The report identifies six opportunities for emerging technologies to help Americans live longer, healthier, and more independent lives. These six areas are: Key activities of daily living, Cognition, Communication and social connectivity, Personal mobility, Transportation, and Access to healthcare.

This brief highlights the critical services provided by the Older Americans Act (OAA). It also reviews the current funding challenges the program faces in light of rising inflation and increased demand for services from a growing population of older adults. The OAA was last renewed in 2016 for three years and is up for renewal again in 2019.

NADTC has released the results of a new national poll on transportation needs and awareness. The study is comprised of three national surveys, conducted among older adults, people living with disabilities and family caregivers. The results of this survey are presented in slideshow format.
