Accessing Worker\'s Compensation Insurance for Individuals Participating in Self-Directed Support Service Programs: A National Review

This presentation focuses on workers' compensation laws and systems as they pertain to domestic service workers, and in particular, personal assistance workers, in 50 states, the District of Columbia, five U.S. territories (American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands) and the tribal government of the Navajo Nation.

Aging and Disability Resource Centers Toolbox

The Aging and Disability Resource Center Grant Program, was developed to assist states in their efforts to create a single, coordinated system of information and access for all persons seeking long term support. This toolbox has been developed for ADRC grantees to: 1) List and succinctly explain the AoA-CMS requirements per each topic, and 2) provide materials that will support the design, development and operation of resource centers.

Rewarding Work: Recruiting Direct Support Workers Through the Web - Webcast

Lessons from the Implementation of Cash and Counseling in Arkansas, Florida, and New Jersey

Cash & Counseling provides a flexible monthly allowance (based on the consumer’s care plan or claims history) that consumers can use to hire their choice of workers, including family members, and to purchase other goods & services. A demonstration was implemented in three states-Arkansas, Florida, & New Jersey. Based on their experiences, this paper draws lessons on designing & implementing a Cash & Counseling program, to provide information useful to states thinking of adopting such a program.

Promising Practices in HCBS: Georgia- Increasing Service Flexibility for Caregivers

This document describes Legacy Express, a program in Georgia which attempts to improve the quality of services provided to older Americans and their caregivers. Legacy Express provides vouchers to caregivers which may be spent on service options. The objective is to give caregivers the authority and flexibility to select those service options that work best for them. This program’s implementation and impact is explained in the document.

Promising Practices in HCBS: Minnesota- Quality Improvement Based on the Values of People Who Receive Supports

A pilot project in southeastern Minnesota has developed a quality assurance approach that focuses on matters important to people receiving supports and their families and provides a means of quality improvement, as opposed to licensing minimum standards. This report is based on an independent evaluation of the project, which used extensive interviews, focus groups and reviews of written materials and project files. The report provides intervention, implementation, and impact information.
