Framework for Designing and Implementing Accessible Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Strategic Plans

As technology continues to transform the workplace, demand is growing for the development, purchase, maintenance and use of information and communication technology (ICT) that is accessible to and usable by all applicants and employees, including individuals with disabilities. This paper provides a framework that can be used to develop technical assistance tools to help employers design, purchase, lease, maintain and use ICT that is accessible to & usable by people with disabilities and others.

American Foundation for the Blind - Website

The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), the national nonprofit that expands possibilities for people with vision loss, has launched a redesign of its main website. The new site offers a more interactive, engaging experience, making it easier for visitors to locate information on the topics that interest them. Like the former AFB website, the new afb.org is fully accessible to people with vision loss. Visitors can change colors, font, and font size to increase content readability.

National Core Indicators Website

NCI is a voluntary effort by public developmental disabilities agencies to measure and track their own performance. The core indicators are standard measures used across states to assess the outcomes of services provided to individuals and families. Indicators address key areas of concern including employment, rights, service planning, community inclusion, choice, and health and safety.

People with Disabilities and Medicaid Managed Care: Key Issues to Consider

This issue brief looks at issues related to the development and implementation of managed care programs with the capacity to serve Medicaid beneficiaries with disabilities. Drawing on existing research on Medicaid managed care and people with disabilities, the brief highlights policy considerations related to setting plan payment rates, developing adequate provider networks and delivery systems, and ensuring sufficient beneficiary protections and plan oversight.

Money Follows the Person Demonstration: Overview of State Grantee Progress, January to June 2011

Enrollment in MFP continued to grow steadily with 15,818 cumulative transitions to the community as of June 30, 2011, a 33 percent increase from the end of 2010. The states reported 3,722 new transitions during the six-month period from January to June 2011, 9 percent more than in the previous six-month period. The report provides an overview of state MFP grantee progress on key performance indicators and challenges states reported when implementing their transition programs.

LGBT Train the Trainer Curriculum

PHI, in partnership with Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Elders (SAGE) created a “train the trainer” curriculum for long term care providers and other aging organizations. These trainings are available through the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging. These trainings assist organizations in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for their elders who are LGBT and provide best practices and knowledge of LGBT elder issues, concerns, and fears.

Aging in Place: A State Survey of Livability Policies and Practices

This report examines state policies that are needed to help older adults age in place. These policies include integrating land use, housing and transportation; efficiently delivering services in the home; providing more transportation choices, particularly for older adults who no longer drive; and improving affordable, accessible housing to prevent social isolation.

TAC Resource Center on Supportive Housing

This site is a one stop resource to help expand integrated supportive housing approaches for people with disabilities. It highlights innovative new options within the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program, & provides information & resources targeted to states & other supportive housing stakeholders as they face new challenges & opportunities for ensuring community living for non elderly people with disabilities.

One Call-One Click Transportation Services Toolkit

This Toolkit provides information for communities interested in working together to develop a one-call or one-click service for transportation to fit their own circumstances. On November 9th, the Federal Transit Administration announced $34.6 million would be awarded to 55 communities for resource centers. Review the website for practical guides and tools on implementation. Additionally there are community profiles and webinars to provide best practice examples.

Raising Expectations: A State Scorecard on Long-Term Services and Supports for Older Adults, People with Physical Disabilities, and Family Caregivers

Certain states significantly outperform others in the delivery of long-term services and supports (LTSS) to older adults and people with disabilities. The report examines four key dimensions of state LTSS system performance: affordability and access; choice of setting and provider; quality of life and quality of care; support for family caregivers. It assesses each state's performance overall as well as on 25 indicators, some of which measured for the first time. Compare data on the website.
