MIG Work Plans and Activities - District of Columbia

How are states educating Disability Services providers and other project stakeholders on their MIG plans? Attached are two diagrams of the components and status of MIG projects and activities used in the District of Columbia during planning meetings. These graphic descriptions may be replicable by other states looking to present similar information.

The DC Metro Business Leadership Network - District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland

Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) and the Role of the Aging Network - Website

AoA's website now provides easy access to key resources for Aging Network providers working with HECM borrowers. As of 2011, HECM mortgagees who are delinquent in property cost payments will receive a letter from their lender regarding payment of these costs. Many of these older mortgagees can turn to the Aging Network for assistance. Resources available on the web page include background information, summary information, and an FAQ that may be used with consumers.

What Factors Influence the Kind of Long-term Services Patients with Private Insurance Choose Over Time

What are the factors that influence the kind of long-term services patients choose over time? This was examined through a study that interviewed individuals with LTC insurance policies over a two year period. Having someone available to assist when needed, and feeling safe were found to be the most important considerations. 93% responded that home care was their first choice, however 71 % indicated that there were no options for LTC other than nursing homes in their area.

The information and assistance (I&A) service is a cornerstone of the ADRC. This guide provides tools that I&A supervisors can use to cultivate, mentor and maintain a top-notch team of professionals. It incorporates tools developed and used by two ADRC’s in Wisconsin, and includes tools for recruitment and hiring, ongoing communication, training, and performance feedback and appraisal. A number of sample forms are provided.

Caregiving Strain and Estimated Risk for Stroke and Coronary Heart Disease Among Spouse Caregivers – Journal Article

High caregiving stress has been associated with poor physical and psychological health, and with increased mortality among spouse caregivers. This study examined the differential effects of stress on stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD) risk by race and sex. Caregiving strain was significantly associated with higher estimated risk for men, particularly African American men, providing caregiving to their wives.
