Making the Long-Term Services and Supports System Work for People with Dementia and Their Caregivers

States serve a large number of people with dementia & caregivers in their Aging Networks & LTSS systems. This involves accommodating the needs of a population experiencing a variety of physical, cognitive, & behavioral symptoms from dementia, along with other medical conditions. This brief discusses why states should be concerned about dementia capability in their LTSS systems, describes the components of model dementia-capable systems, & reports how states have addressed dementia capability.

Dementia Capability Toolkit

When assessing the needs of persons with dementia and caregivers in the community, it is important to understand the number of persons affected and their unique needs for services and programs. Providing Services for People with Dementia Who Live Alone

This report reviews the available literature & conducted interviews with people with Alzheimer’s & other dementias who live alone, caregivers, health care & social service professionals to obtain their views about the need and effective ways to meet those needs. Older Americans Behavioral Health Issue Brief: Series Overview

ElderCare Locator – Enhanced Website

A newly enhanced, person-centered call center that will serve as a link to information and services for older adults and caregivers across the United States has been introduced. Callers will speak with an Information Specialist who will help connect them to a local agency in their area for information and assistance. The service also features a newly re-designed website for boomers and older adults.

Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) and the Role of the Aging Network - Website

AoA's website now provides easy access to key resources for Aging Network providers working with HECM borrowers. As of 2011, HECM mortgagees who are delinquent in property cost payments will receive a letter from their lender regarding payment of these costs. Many of these older mortgagees can turn to the Aging Network for assistance. Resources available on the web page include background information, summary information, and an FAQ that may be used with consumers.
