Social Security Administration's Ticket to Work Program

AARP State Tax Guides: What You'll Pay in 2024

AARP's tax guides offer valuable insight into the diverse tax policies across states, aiding individuals in understanding their tax obligations and potential breaks. They detail variations such as graduated income tax levels or flat rates, differing sales tax rates, and some states exempting certain taxes altogether. While most states do not tax Social Security benefits, exceptions exist. Estate and inheritance taxes also fluctuate significantly among states, as do taxes on gas, lottery winnings, and alcohol. Many states provide tax breaks for older adults, ranging from income or property tax breaks to exemptions for retired military personnel.

Caregiving in the U.S 2020

This report is an update to NAC's research series, Caregiving in the U.S., conducted roughly every five years. The 2020 update shows that the number of family caregivers in the United States has increased by 9.5 million from 2015 to 2020. Caregiving in the U.S. 2020

The National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP released an update version of the Caregiving in the US report for 2020. The report contains updated data from research conducted since the report’s last release in 2015. Included in the report are data about caregiver prevalence and demographics, care recipient demographics, types of care caregivers provide, caregiver training and information needs, and other results from the research.

Older Adults’ Experiences with Opioid Prescriptions

This study asked adults age 50-80 about their use of opioids for pain management, perceptions of opioid policies, and the education they received about the drugs and their disposal. More than one in four older adults (29%) said they filled a prescription for an opioid pain medication for themselves within the past two years. Nearly half had leftover opioid medication, raising important concerns about misuse or abuse and highlighting the importance of communication with healthcare professionals.
