Medicare and Medicaid Turn 40 Webcast

This event sponsored by the Kaiser Family Foundation and The Commonwealth Fund gathered former Medicare and Medicaid and other health policy experts to mark the 40th anniversary of these two health care programs. Also shown at the briefing was a new documentary, Medicare and Medicaid at 40, about the history, politics and impact of Medicare and Medicaid that included perspectives from people involved in the original 1965 debate and implementation of the programs.

Community For All Tool Kit: Resources For Supporting Community Living

This tool kit was developed at the request of volunteers, advocates, self-advocates, and professionals concerned with preserving the remarkable progress made towards the inclusion of people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities into the mainstream of community life in America. To fight disinformation and segregation, this tool kit provides the philosophy, policy and research rationale that supports community supports and services for all people with disabilities.

Evaluation of a Model Consumer-Directed Program: Illinois

Over the last decade states have made committed efforts to support individuals living at home with families. One example is the Illinois Home Based Support Services Program (HBSSP) which is a model consumer-directed program for adults with developmental disabilities and their families. This program families with an individualized budget of approximately $1,500 per month to design and direct supports. This paper evaluates the model and answers questions about service utilization.

Aiding Older Caregivers of Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

This tool kit has been designed as a result of three years of collaboration building workshops in 33 different states. The impetus arose from the need to disseminate the latest information on aging and intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and to find ways in which agencies can collaborate to assist caregivers and care recipients. This tool kit is an accumulation of the materials presented at the workshops and provides agencies with resources for forming new partnerships.

TAE Issue Brief: The Medicare Modernization Act and ADRCs

This issue brief describes the implications of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003 for consumers, state Medicaid agencies, health care providers, and the public and private entities that provide benefits counseling and supports to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. The Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) made a number of significant changes to law that affects ADRCs, most notably, MMA established prescription drug coverage for Medicare beneficiaries.
