Medicaid: The Essentials - Presentation

Medicaid covers health and long-term care services for many millions of low-income Americans. Conversations were already underway at this event concerning the role of Medicaid as a vehicle for economic stimulus, and about health coverage expansion proposals, with particular discussion around the challenges facing states implementing the program in the recent economic downturn.

National Center for Telehealth & Technology

The National Center for Telehealth and Technology (T2) researches, develops, evaluates, and deploys new and existing technologies for Psychological Health (PH) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) across the Department of Defense. T2 manages several programs to treat PH and TBI in service members and their families, including an extensive Telehealth program which provides PH services to patients in remote areas, who would otherwise not have access to care, as well as programs for deployed members.

Real Choice Systems Change Grants for Community Living: A Feasibility Study to Consider Respite Services for Children with Disabilities in Maryland

This feasibility study was undertaken to assess respite services for children with disabilities in Maryland. The study compiled and analyzed an annotated list of the Code of Maryland Regulations pertaining to respite, conducted two surveys of agencies that provide respite services to families of children with disabilities, and of the families themselves, and developed a demonstration model that would provide a respite service operated in the manner of a Medicaid service.

The Rehabilitation Act: Outcomes for Transition-Age Youth

The purpose of this study is to synthesize data on the impact that the Rehabilitation Act has had on the employment and post secondary education outcomes of eligible youth. It examines how well existing vocational rehabilitation (VR) structures deliver effective transition services. It also looks at the effectiveness of collaboration between VR, education, and other service systems. Finally, 11 recommendations for the U.S. Congress and various relevant federal and state agencies are given.

Navigating the System

Life is complicated; systems supporting people with developmental disabilities are even more complex. This guidebook is intended to help understand the many systems that may be encountered as a self advocate or someone involved in the life of an individual with a developmental disability. Like a car manual; some of this information may never be needed but if something happens the information is available. Other state programs can use this guidebook as a template to create a similar manual.

National Resource Directory for Veterans Website

The U.S. Department of Labor has joined with the U.S. Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs to launch a Web-based directory to help wounded warriors identify resources available to assist them in transitioning back to civilian life. The National Resource Directory encompasses more than 10,000 services and resources, including information on benefits and compensation, education, training and employment, family ad caregiver support, health, housing and transportation, service and resources.

Shaping Medicaid and SCHIP Through Waivers: The Fundamentals

This paper examines the use of research, demonstration, and program waivers as vehicles for innovation in the delivery and payment of health care and long-term care. It summarizes the context of the creation of the programs and reviews their legal underpinnings. It also analyzes the dynamics between state and federal authorities. Finally, the paper examines the impact of the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 on the need for or desirability of waivers.

Medicaid Long Term Care Expenditures FY 2007

This memorandum presents data on Medicaid long-term care expenditures in Federal Fiscal Year 2007 (Oct 2006-Sept 2007). Table 1 presents national data on Medicaid expenditures for Long-Term Care from 1995-2007. Other tables present state-by-state data for Nursing Homes, ICF/MR, Personal Care, HCBS Waivers, Home Health, Home Care, 1115 Waivers focused on HCBS, and other Medicaid services.
