Transforming Lives through Culinary Training - New Hampshire

Looking for an example of a business model that incorporates the recruitment, employment and training of those with disabilities? First Course is an intensive culinary training program in Keene, New Hampshire. Their curriculum is designed to provide individuals with a solid foundation in the food service and hospitality industry. Training For The Support of Employees With Disabilities - New Hampshire

How has New Hampshire used its MIG funds to support the career goals of individuals with disabilities? One approach was to develop training tools for job developers and administrative staff who are interested in hiring, training and supporting employees with disabilities. The following examples include a survey, staff certification information and a brochure for a series of workshops. These are available here for other states who have, or are interested in implementing similar programs.

Medicaid Buy-In for Workers with Disabilities Application in Spanish - Ohio

Ohio's Medicaid Buy-In for Workers with Disabilities (MBIWD) was created to enable Ohioans with disabilities to work and still keep their health care coverage. An application for this program, translated into Spanish, could be useful to consumers as well as state’s with similar needs. The application is provided here.

The Aging Services Network and the Use of Online Screening and Application Technology

Read the main findings of an online survey of State Units on Aging (SUAs) and Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) on the use of online screening and application tools to help seniors and younger adults with disabilities to enroll in public benefits. The results show that the majority use online screening and application technology to support their counseling and enrollment activities, and that using these technologies have benefited their organization and their clients.

IndependentChoices Procedure Manual - Arkansas

An alternative to the traditional care delivery system, Arkansas’ IndependentChoices was the first program nationally that offered participant directed care as an option to its’ Medicaid population. Arkansas serves as a model for other states interested in implementing similar programs. This in depth procedures manual outlines the history, philosophy and detailed procedures for the program. IndependentChoices Handbook and Marketing Material - Arkansas

Part of the Cash & Counseling effort, IndependentChoices is a Medicaid program that allows the consumer to direct their own personal assistant services. Because Arkansas was the first state to have a program like this, their experiences and materials are a good resource for other states looking to implement similar programs. Annual Disability Statistics Compendium: 2009

This compendium is the first of an annual publication of statistics on people with disabilities and government programs that serve this population. It is designed to serve as a reference guide to government publications. The information focuses on state-level statistics published by Federal agencies and presents some time-trend data. A glossary is provided to assist in the interpretation of the statistics.

CMS Policies Related to the Provision of F/EA Services

This presentation was part of the 2007 Government and Vendor Fiscal/Employer Agent Workshop. This presentation provided an update on policies regarding self-direction, with an emphasis on those related to fiscal management activities. The session also answered some of the more frequently asked questions and explored some of the differences between section 1915(c) waiver programs and the new State Plan options for self-directed services.
