This webinar will discuss the value of volunteers in dementia programs, including examples such as the friendly visitor program. Presenters will review the importance of training and ongoing support for volunteers and describe how to build a long-term, sustainable volunteer-driven program for people living with dementia. Finally, this webinar will outline how a  volunteer-relationship model of care differs from a paid day program for those living with dementia.

The Messages We Send: Stigma Toward Persons Living with Dementia and How to End It

Event Description: 

This webinar will discuss the types of stigma around dementia, including prejudicial attitudes, negative stereotypes, discriminatory behaviors and social structures biased against persons with dementia. During the webinar, presenters will provide examples of how language influences stigm and review how person-centered language to counter stigma around dementia. Participants will also learn what it means to use a strength-based approach with persons who have dementia.

Suspicious Activity Reports and Elder Financial Exploitation

Event Description: 

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) recently published a report highlighting suspicious activities targeting older adults. The report examines elder financial exploitation Suspicious Activity Reports (EFE SARs) to analyze the problem of elder financial exploitation and identify ways to improve prevention and response. This webinar will discuss the findings of this study.

Presenting the Self-Advocacy Fellowship Projects

The Self Advocacy Resource and Technical Assistance Center (SARTAC) hosts year-long fellowships designed to help self-advocates to develop and grow their skills as leaders in the self-advocacy movement. Fellows work with a supporting host organization on policy issues or a project that can help develop their leadership skills. The Evolving Healthcare Legislation Landscape

Event Description: 

The National Resource Center on Nutrition & Aging is hosting a two-part webinar about recent changes in the Medicare policy landscape. These changes from CMS will enable the provision of new medical and non-medical benefits to seniors and represent an opportunity for senior nutrition programs. The first webinar will discuss opportunities to partner with MA and other managed care plans and review how rules around supplemental benefits in MA have changed and what that means for the provision of non-medical benefits.
